Things To Do

The Wedding Website of Matthew Dungan and Joseph Humphries
We’re so excited for our friends and family to experience the charm of Newport during our wedding weekend. This coastal town is known for its stunning ocean views, Gilded Age history, beautiful walking paths, and lively waterfront filled with shops and great food. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing afternoon, a bit of adventure, or a taste of Newport’s rich heritage, there’s plenty to enjoy. Below are some of the most beloved local highlights to help you make the most of your time in this beautiful seaside destination.
Downtown Newport

Downtown Newport

Downtown Newport and the wharves are located off Thames Street and are home to great food, bars, and tons of shopping! Don't miss out on walking through the charming streets and visiting the many unique shops and boutiques! Be sure to walk down the wharf where you will see beautiful views of the water and boats!

The Lawn at Castle Hill Inn

The Lawn at Castle Hill Inn

590 Ocean Avenue, Newport, RI 02840

The Lawn @ Castle Hill Inn is one of our favorite Newport experiences. Grab a seat on an Adirondack chair and your cocktail or snack of choice and enjoy one of the most amazing views and sunsets in Newport! No reservation required! The Lawn also has restaurant dining available and we would recommend a reservation for that.

Newport Mansion Tours

Newport Mansion Tours

424 Bellevue Avenue, Newport, RI 02840

There are many ornate and famous Gilded Age mansions worth exploring in Newport! We especially love The Breakers (famous for being the grand Vanderbilt home), Marble House (incredible detail and 500,000 cubic feet of marble), and Rosecliff (The Great Gatsby starring Robert Redford and Mia Farrow was filmed here)! You can purchase tickets on the Preservation Society website or on-site at any of the mansions to experience the beauty and architectural history!

Sailboat Excursions

Sailboat Excursions

Sailing is a huge part of this coastal city, which hosted America's Cup, a renowned annual regatta, for many years. Experience Newport, the "Sailing Capital of the World," from the water on a sail aboard the Adirondack II, Eleanor, Madeleine, or many other sailing and cruising options! The crews are all amazing and provide a fun and relaxing sailing experience for all on board! We personally recommend enjoying a sail and local libation on the Schooner Adirondack II!

The Cliff Walk

The Cliff Walk

One of the top attractions in Newport, the Cliff Walk is a 3.5-mile walk along the beautifully scenic shoreline, where you will pass by a number of Newport’s famous gilded mansions, including, The Breakers, Marble House, and Rosecliff, and get to experience panoramic views of the ocean. The path traces the edge of the sea and is enjoyed by all, from photographers to casual walkers, to long-distance runners. You can get off at any of the numerous exit points along the way. Some parts of the southern end of the trail are fairly rough, so for those who don't want to brave the rocks or do the entire 3.5-mile walk, we recommend starting at Memorial Blvd. (where the Cliff Walk technically starts), heading south, and getting off at Ruggles Avenue or Ledge Road. If you have limited time and for the best views, we recommend doing the walk from Narragansett Avenue (where the 40 steps are) to Ruggles Avenue or Marine Avenue.
