Our Story

Swipe Left or Swipe Right

If you could go back two years ago and tell us that we would meet our other half on a dating app, we would call you crazy. But that's just what happened. In this new modern age of technology, one can find anything and everything; it is kind of scary. One can find music, entertainment, news, how-to's, all of the new celebrity scandals, and who knew love on the internet. It began on a regular dull day, not thinking much of anything, scrolling on the phone to find something to keep our short attention span engaged; we downloaded an app. An app designed to search for connections, hookups, little flings, friends, plugs, and the whole sha-bang. Which app? Tinder. With one swipe and then the next, one attempts to find the relationship or the hookups solely based on how one looks, and the short "About Me" section by swiping left if you don't like or right if you do. If both swipe right, you get a match and can text on Tinder. Thus one visits Tinder at random times of the day, sitting at home bored out of your mind trying to find a match. Swiping left and right, right, then left and then left, left, left, left, and right, and then another left, and so on. It is ever so often that you stumble across someone's "page" and stay on it awhile. You swipe right, not thinking so much about it until you get the notification that "IT'S A MATCH." And that's what happened to us. Kaila swiped right; first, Joseph swiped right second, and we matched on October 19th, 2022. We had our first conversation, and things just clicked. The conversation was easy, fun, and lighthearted, something you would think would be scripted in a movie, but it is real life. We had our first date on November 7th, 2022, and chose Tacos for our first meal. One can never go wrong with Tacos. Except you can, those tacos were absolutely disgusting! From there, we headed to the park, learned more about each other, and discovered similarities that we had not found in other people. After a couple of laps around our new favorite park, we continued the night, heading to our new favorite Frozen Yogurt spot, sat in the parking lot, and talked for hours. What would usually be a 2-hour date was a 6-hour date for us. Neither of us wanted the night to end. From the first time we locked eyes, a spark ignited, and we both knew that we would be special to one another. Unbeknownst to us that we will be uniting under God just over two years later to our match day. Several dates followed afterward, many beginning around eight, not getting home until 2 or 3 in the morning, knowing we had school and work the next day, but we didn't care. On November 24th, 2022, we made it official that we were "Locked in." On March 6th, 2023, Joseph proposed. And now we are joining together under God in complete matrimony, preparing for our lives together. We could not be more excited. When you meet your person, everything feels like you are floating, every kiss, every hug, every laugh you share, every tear, every argument, every time you hold hands. We are both excited to walk through life, holding hands together forever. We thank our family and friends, who told us about each other. Joseph this and Joseph that, Makaila this and Makaila that, all day and every day that we weren't with each other. We thank you for your support as we continue this journey. We thank God for bringing us to one another early in our lives. But when you know, you know. And we both knew. As we both like to say, "Everything Happens For A Reason."
