Why They Postponed

Damn you, CORONA.

Kim and Joe made the decision to postpone their wedding from March 12 to July 29. This was not an easy decision but due to the concern for their guest's safety and comfort attending a large party, they did so. Unfortunately there were only Thursdays (and one Sunday!) available at their venue. They apologize for any inconvenience a Thursday wedding may cause you, but they sincerely hope you'll be able to attend (and that the virus is no longer a problem of course!)

How They Met

Both Kim and Joe downloaded a dating app and swiped right on each other. Kim quickly decided she didn't actually want to do online dating at the time, but Joe had already asked for her number. Thinking it would be a conversation that would fizzle and they'd never meet, she gave it to him. They text back and forth for a while and due to busy schedules, weren't able to meet. Finally on a Thursday night Joe had had enough and said that they needed to meet each other so Kim went from work, to her 3 hour grad school class, and then straight to Applebee's. Again, she thought , "What the heck, I probably won't see him again after this anyway so I might as well just get it over with." Little did she know, they would have such a fun and easy conversation that they went on their second date the same night ... to a different Applebee's.

How Joe Proposed

Back in January, Joe's sister Lauren wanted Kim and Joe to meet her boyfriend Billy so they decided on a wine and cheese bar in the city on Friday March 6. Closer to the date, the plans had to change because Billy "had to work" now. Plans were rescheduled for Thursday March 5 at a steakhouse all the way up in Westchester - Kim was not happy because she is not the type of person who likes to do big things on work nights but she knew it was important to meet him so she agreed. That day, Joe told Kim she had all of 10-15 minutes to get ready when she got home from work because of the traffic and the distance. They were to meet Lauren and Billy by the bridge and take one car together. On the way to the bridge, Joe was acting like a lunatic in the car - singing loudly and exaggerating lyrics, but Kim assumed it was because he was getting his energy out before he had to act somewhat calmly in front of Billy. Joe asked Kim if she wanted to get out of the car to see the view but since it was windy and cold (another thing Kim doesn't like) she said no. Finally they got to Fort Totten and Joe took 5 minutes to pick a spot in an almost empty parking lot and then proceeded to accidentally scrape the underside of his car pulling in. He got out of the car and put on a big act as if he ruined the front end, so Kim got out of the car to look. Joe laughed and said, "Got you out of the car! Let's go look at the view." As they were walking toward the water, Joe was acting oddly again and looking around too much, so Kim started to look around too. That's when she spotted someone with a professional looking camera, turned around immediately, and found Joe down on his knee, asking if she'd marry him! She said yes!

After the Proposal

Once the adrenaline had faded, Kim asked, "Where's Billy?" Joe and Lauren laughed and said there is no steakhouse dinner - it was a rouse to get you here. They had to change the plans due to weather, but Joe and Kim still had their own reservations to celebrate. Naturally, on the car ride to the restaurant, Kim insisted on FaceTiming her mom and sister but Joe insisted they wait because he wanted to celebrate with just her. Joe also told Kim they couldn't call his family either. Kim text her mom and sister and they didn't seem all that enthusiastic so to get to the bottom of things, she FaceTimed anyway. It took a long time for her mom to answer, but when she did she was at Kim's sister's house "going out to eat with the family," and knew all about the engagement plans. Now Kim was mad because she didn't understand why if they knew she was getting engaged they would plan a family dinner that night without her. Since this was supposed to be a happy night for her and Joe she decided to let it be and she'd talk to them the next day. When Kim and Joe got to the restaurant, they walked past dozens of empty tables for two. Kim quickly assumed they were going to a more private area of the restaurant. When they rounded the corner to a smaller room, her entire family, and Joe's entire family were all there waiting to celebrate!
