It all began in their YSA ward at BYU (classic). Katelyn and Joseph met shortly after Katelyn got home from serving her mission in Wisconsin and shortly before Joseph's roommate asked her out. Being the kind and respectful person he is, Joseph kept to the bro code and hung back for a few months. Lucky for Joseph, nothing happened between Katelyn and his roommate. However, he took his time before asking her out. They were in the same friend group fall semester, and though they saw each other frequently, Katelyn never suspected Joseph was interested in her. That may have something to do with the fact that girls were constantly swarming around him. (He may say that's an exaggeration but it's not - he's quite a catch.) So Joseph admired Katelyn from a distance for a few months and then the opportune moment to make his move came at Christmas break. Katelyn was left without a ride to the airport so he drove her and they even went to a cheese place before. (The Wisconsin-ness runs deep in these two.) They also got carrot cake at a cute little bakery. They went on to text just about every day of break, often for hours at a time. They talked about everything from school to missions to cheese (of course) to siblings to ideal dates. And then Joseph finally asked her out and she said yes. Once they got back from break, they went on several fun dates and officially started dating February 19, 2023. The next several months were filled with dinners at Olive Garden, always doing homework together, watching each other's favorite movies and TV shows, and unfortunately a broken femur and an exciting stay in the hospital. (Let's just say Katelyn is a lot more cautious when crossing streets now.) Joseph was such a big support in Katelyn's recovery and they're now able to look back on that time with (mostly) fond memories. The summer was filled with fun family reunions and road trips to Washington and Wisconsin. The more time Katelyn and Joseph spent together, the clearer it became that they wanted to be together forever. On January 11, 2024, Joseph finally proposed to Katelyn at Bridal Veil Falls. She knew it was coming of course since he'd already bought the ring, she was getting her nails done with her cousin the day before, and she washed her hair that morning (wink wink). But although it wasn't a surprise, she couldn't be happier. May 18th can't come fast enough! Katelyn and Joseph are so excited to continue to grow closer, learn from one another, and spend the rest of their lives together.
