Belle Isle is an island park in the Detroit River and is home to numerous attractions including the Belle Isle Aquarium, the Belle Isle Conservatory, and the James Scott Memorial fountain. The most beautiful view of the city is from Belle Isle’s Sunset Point.
The Detroit Riverfront extends from the Ambassador Bridge in the west to Belle Isle in the east for a total of 5.5 miles. Key public spaces include the Dequindre Cut, Hart plaza, and the Renaissance Center.
The Dequindre Cut is the former Grand Trunk Western Railroad line that has been converted to a two-mile greenway that connects Eastern Market and the Detroit Riverfront.
The Detroit Institute of Art (DIA) is located in the Midtown neighborhood of Detroit and home to Diego Rivera’s Detroit Industry cycle of frescoes.

Mudgie’s is another favorite. Joe recommends ‘The Barrett’ sandwich, and Liz swears by ‘The Madill’ or ‘Honeybee Salad’.
No trip to Detroit is complete without a coney dog, which is a hot dog topped with hot chili, onions, and mustard. Depending on who you ask, the best coney is found at either American Coney Island or Lafayette Coney Island. Try both to decide for yourself!
