Thanks to the modern internet, someone who lives for NASCAR, Metallica, and hockey can find their perfect match in someone passionate about cooking, reading, vinyl records, and coffee — two people who might never have crossed paths otherwise. Their first date was at Crave, a dessert bar in uptown Charlotte. Josh suggested they split a s'mores platter, complete with a camp stove to roast marshmallows. After talking a big game about how she is "so good" at roasting marshmallows, Josee (known to her friends as Jojo) immediately lit her marshmallow on fire and it was engulfed in flames. It was at that moment when her fight, flight or freeze instincts took over and she was paralyzed with embarrassment and the threat of fire. Josh grabbed the roasting stick out of her hand, extinguished the flames, and said "Sorry, I saw fear in your eyes and I had to take care of it". Let's just say that the marshmallow was not the only one who saw sparks flying that night. From that night on, the couple continued to date and fall in love. Their adventures led them to Metallica concerts, NASCAR races, art museums, ice skating rinks, hockey games, trips to DC, St. Louis, and the beach where they got engaged! They shared lots of laughs and sweet moments together - with a killer playlist on each car ride, thanks to Jojo. Unlike the marshmallow at Crave, their love started as a slow burn that has developed into a lasting flame. And thanks to Josh, Jojo has not lit anything on fire since.
