It all started in Flagstaff—of all places, at Bashas’. I was working there at the time when Jose had just gotten hired on. Our store had a close-knit crew, and it wasn’t uncommon for us to hang out outside of work. One day, I invited Jose to join us, not thinking much of it—until I found out he was only 19 and I was 21! We began working more and more shifts together, and somewhere between stocking shelves and helping customers, we started to really get to know each other. I offered to lend him my flashcards to study produce codes, which gave me the perfect excuse to get his number. From there, our conversations never really stopped. Not long after, Jose’s brother Pedro came to visit, but Jose had to work. So, I stepped in—I cooked breakfast and spent time getting to know his family. Looking back, that moment feels like the beginning of everything. From then on, we were inseparable. Life took us in different directions for a short time when Jose moved back to Phoenix in November while I stayed in Flagstaff to finish my student teaching. But distance didn’t stand a chance—I made the drive to Phoenix every weekend just to be with him. Those drives were more than worth it. Once I graduated, I moved to Phoenix, and the rest is history. What started in a small grocery store grew into a love story we never could have imagined. Now, here we are—two beautiful daughters later—building a life together that we are so proud of. And this is only the beginning. 💕
