Things To Do
Heavenly Gondola
Take the 2.4 mile gondola ride up Heavenly Mountain for beautiful panoramic views of Lake Tahoe. Stop halfway up at the observation deck for photos, snacks, and drinks!
Emerald Bay State Park
A beautiful park 12 miles from South Lake Tahoe. They have great hiking trails and viewpoints here. It is also home to Vikingsholm Castle which you can tour from 10:30am-4pm for $18. It is a steep 1 mile hike to the castle from the parking lot. Some of our favorite viewpoints include Inspiration Point and Lower Eagle Falls. Hikes we recommend: Vikingsholm trail (1.7 miles), Vikingsholm trail to lower Eagle Falls (2.5 miles), and Emerald Point trail (5.1 miles)
Tallac Historic Site, Tallac Point, and Kiva Beach
There is a beautiful easy 2 mile lakeside trail here called Lake of the Sky Trail that we highly recommend! Tallac historic site has cool preserved historic buildings that you can tour with some very interesting history of Lake Tahoe.
Hiking
There are so many great hiking trails in the Lake Tahoe area! Here are the AllTrails names of some that we have done or want to do eventually: Cascade Falls Trail (1.3 miles), Eagle Lake Trail (1.8 miles), Barn Trail to Cal Neva Loop (2.9 miles), Angora Ridge and Valley View Trail Loop (4.3 miles), Tunnel Creek Trail (7 miles), Angora Lakes Trail (1.4 miles), Fallen Leaf Lake Trail (3.5 miles) Link to the AllTrails list is below
