The couple first met back when Jose was in 8th grade and Celeste was in 7th grade, they had a mutual friend and would all walk to school together. However, they would not see each other again until they found one another in college. It was in the Bridge College Ministry of Compass Bible Church where they began forming a friendship. In early 2023, Celeste began taking notice of Jose. She noticed how he was highly committed to the church, always served with a genuine love for others, and clearly loved the Lord. It did not take long for her to start having an interest in Jose. Jose had taken notice in Celeste because he saw her selfless and sacrificial service in the church. He loved the way she treated people and displayed her passion for Christ. He quickly saw that Celeste was the godly woman he needed to pursue. The pair began talking when Celeste asked to sit next to him at a group desk in the CBI library. She pulled out her ESV Study Bible, pens, and highlighters and got to work on her daily Bible reading. Jose was quick to take notice of this. He began to talk to her about that day's scripture reading. This was just the beginning of many more conversations as they got to know each other better over a mutual love for Christ. Over the course of many months, the pair would find each other and spend time talking at various church events. It was clear to both of them that this was something they wanted to pursue. In July 2023, the Bridge College Ministry took a retreat to Yosemite National Park. It was there that the pair spent lots of time together hiking trails with friends. On the last day of retreat, as all the cars were loading up to head home, Jose asked Celeste to take a walk with him. As they took their short walk, Jose mustered up the courage to ask her out on a date. The very next day, the pair went to Urban Plates for dinner and talked for hours. In fact, the restaurant closed on them but that didn't stop them from continuing to spend time asking each other questions and getting to know each other more. After another date and one week at Revival, Jose asked Celeste to go see a movie. It was after that movie, that he asked her to be his girlfriend. After just a few weeks of dating, it was becoming clearer and clearer that the qualities they were looking for in a spouse were found in one another. The two had begun dating with the purpose of determining if marriage between them was the Lord's will. As the months went by, they grew to love each other and began talking about engagement. On their one year anniversary, Jose took Celeste out to dinner and afterwards to a lake in Irvine that they frequented. As the pair was walking along the sidewalk, Celeste took notice of Jose's sweaty hands and thought that something might be up. The pair continued walking down to a bench that overlooked the water. It was there that Jose told Celeste how grateful he was that the Lord had brought them together and that he wanted to commit to lay down his life for her for the rest of their lives. He got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. She answered with her whole heart and without a doubt, "yes of course!" The pair are so excited to get married on October 4th, 2024. They desire for their marriage to be a picture of the gospel and are looking forward to bringing glory to Christ through their union!
