Jorge and Lauren both moved to Santa Cruz within a week of each other. They met coincidentally at a mutual friend's bonfire. Although Jorge and Lauren sat next to each other, they hardly exchanged more words than "can you pass the marshmellows?". Neither one left much of an impression on the other. As Lauren developed friendships with more mutual friends of Jorge, they by default began spending more and more time together, and eventually cultivated a strong friendship where they enjoyed surfing together, rap battles, and always having a good laugh. Out to dinner one night in 2021, Jorge and Lauren decided to stage a fake marriage proposal in attempt to get free dessert and/or champagne from the restaurant. Deep down they knew the scheme wouldn't work (and it didn't), but they could have never imagined the foreshadowing of their actual engagement two years later.

In August 2023, Jorge joined the entire Sharabianlou family (Nader, Fara, Lauren, Moe, Ayla, and a very pregnant Leila) on a memorable trip to Kauai. This vacation was special for everyone, but it held an even greater surprise for Lauren. On August 17th, 2023, Jorge took Lauren to Baby Beach, and with the sand beneath their feet, he got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. There was no scheming this time. Just a heartfelt and genuine proposal. Barefoot on the sand, Jorge delivered his words of love in a beautifully nervous rush of Spanish. No one knows what was said that day on Baby Beach, as neither Jorge could remember them nor Lauren could understand them. It didn't help that the audio from the video footage of the proposal was drowned out by the loud crying of Lauren's brother-in-law, the cameraman. Although no one knows what came out of Jorge's mouth in that moment, we do know one thing: Lauren said, "¡Claro que sí!" And now, we are headed to Puerto Rico to celebrate their love.
