Our Story

We met on March 31, 2023 in Adams Morgan "AdMo", Washington, DC at a singles event hosted at Johnny Pistolas. After striking out most of the evening, Jorge locked eyes with Catie across the room, turned to his friend Eric and said "Watch this". With all the confidence in the world, and no idea what he was going to say, Jorge walked up to Catie and blurted out "I like your dress! Where is it from?" Catie politely replied "It's from Old Navy". Jorge immediately fired back "My shirt is from Old Navy!" What Jorge didn't know: Catie was 12 days post-appendectomy, it was her first night out since surgery, and she probably shouldn't have been drinking tequila sodas. She'd even come to the event with a girl she'd never met, making the night feel extra random. Somehow, between Jorge's unconventional opening line, Catie's post-surgery debut, and a singles event neither of us expected much from, we started talking... and the rest is history.

Our First Date: Pearl Street Warehouse to see Little Stranger. Instead of watching the band, we spent most of the night outside talking. Jorge missed the last Metro back to Virginia and was left stranded with nowhere to go. Despite her best judgement, Catie offered him her couch as well her shorts and t-shirt (photos to follow). Our Second Date: Dinner at Menya Hosaki and drinks at Green Island Cafe. Jorge chose a Michelin Bib Gourmand ramen spot, and discovered that we both share a passion for food and a love for trying new restaurants. After dinner, we wandered around Adams Morgan and discovered a cozy jazz bar. Catching our reflection in the mirrored backsplash, Catie smiled and said, "We look cute together!" Our Third Date: Mini Golf at Swingers in Dupont Circle. We played a very competitive 18 holes of indoor mini golf while sipping cocktails. Catie emerged victorious and we celebrated Catie's win over pizza while planning our next date. Catie has remained undefeated to this day. Our Fourth Date: Paddle Boating at the Tidal Basin After Catie casually mentioned paddle boating during her mini-golf victory lap, Jorge immediately reserved tickets for our next date. Unbeknownst to Jorge, Catie always believed the man who took her paddle boating at the Tidal Basin would become her husband. We left the date with a badly sunburned bald head and a fulfilled romantic prophecy.
