We both went to a new bar in DC. Jordyn with her friend Chelsie, and Simon with his boys, enjoying his last few days in DC. Jordyn saw Simon and knew that she needed to speak with him, and made it her business to do so. We clicked instantly, especially through music and dancing. We spent the rest of the weekend together, during which Simon divulged that he was moving to Kentucky for his doctoral program the very next week. He expressed how he wouldn’t be able to visit and Jordyn did not plan on going to Kentucky. But magnets do what they do and we eventually couldn’t deny our natural pull. Thus, we began our long distance relationship from DC to Kentucky. Jordyn didn’t like it. But, thankfully, Simon was steadfast and persistent in making it work. Over the course of 6 years, we've experienced the pros and cons of COVID, work from home life, graduations, buying our first home together, starting our family with Simon’s bio son Uri, and of course, getting engaged. Honestly, the scariest part of being apart is over. Now we get to live our lives figuring the rest out together. Leaning on each other the same way we have from the beginning. Consider this the prologue.
Months ahead of time, Simon surprised Jordyn with a planned vacation to Aruba. He disguised this behind an argument they had where Jordyn suggested he needed to do better at taking initiative. Thus was born "Project Initiative," AKA "Here's a vacation I planned for us with a full itinerary for initiative." In one envelope to Jordyn, all reservations and the complete itinerary were set, the two were going to Aruba. This was immediately very meaningful because it's where his mom grew up. On the fifth anniversary of when we first met, Simon took Jordyn to a restaurant, as planned on the itinerary. Unbeknownst to Jordyn, Simon visited this exact restaurant nearly a decade prior with his mom, and promised her that he would take his future wife there to propose one day. After dinner, Simon had the ring brought out with the dessert platter. Before Jordyn could even process what was happening, he was on one knee asking her to continue their loving partnership for the rest of their lives. The live performer sang "What a Wonderful World" in the background (unplanned) and we both shed happy tears. On this day, Simon fulfilled a promise to the two women who have meant the most in his life. It was the start of a new and exciting chapter to becoming one. We can't wait for you to help us celebrate another full circle moment - getting married in Saint Thomas, where we had our first date. Didn't know our first date was in St. Thomas? Ask us about it at the wedding! ☺️👰🏾♀️🤵🏾♂️ See you on the island!! 🌴
