It was May 17th, the first opportunity to get out of the house after the shut down of 2020. The sandbox had just reopened for Spring sand volleyball leagues. I (Jordyn) was signed up on the KCI CrossFit team and Chad was playing on a later team that Sunday evening. After the captain meeting, Andie introduced Chad and me. My team was scheduled to play at 4pm, but ended up moving to 5pm so there was a lot of hanging out time. Chad's team didn't play until 7 that night. The KCI team showed up, and we soon realized we had minimal skills on our team and needed a guy to step in to help us. Mutual friends from the gym recruited Chad so that we would have some sort of a chance. We probably still lost really bad, can't really remember those details. What we do remember is that Chad had his eye on me the whole time, and to this day remembers the exact Lululemon pants I had on LOL. After we probably lost the 5pm game, we had an hour to kill. Chad and I hung out with Andie and Luke (Jordyn's brother) until they had to play. After playing, I had already left and Chad asked Andie for my number. Andie made him get it himself, so he took to FB messenger the next day. We talked for a few days until finally exchanging numbers. That weekend, I spent the day with Chad and his brothers on his boat, and the rest is history.
As most of you may know or see from the cover photo, we had a pretty epic wedding. You may be wondering 'How in the hell did that happen?' I know it's crazy right? The first couple to be married on the Drum Deck inside the stadium during football season. We were told we are the only couple to be married INSIDE Arrowhead ever, but a Tik Tok keyboard warrior tried to argue saying their friend was married there years earlier. The world may never know. lol. Anyways, Andie & my mom (Penny) were having some beers while Andie scrolled past an ad to enter into the #HitchedAtHelzberg contest. So the story goes, Andie looks at Penny, "Should I?" and Penny replies "I dare you!" Andie called me Tuesday night after Thanksgiving with some worry in her voice. "You may hate me or really love me," leaving me really confused. She explained she had entered Chad and I without knowing that the wedding date was not our choice. If we were chosen, the wedding would be exactly 19 days after announcing the winner. I responded something like this, "that's cool, but we probably have like no chance." I posted later that week that we had chosen our wedding date for 2/3/23, but there was a .05% chance it could happen sooner. Well, just like the lottery, someone has to win! Social media was in my favor as I posted a couple pictures of Chad and I enjoying some early season games and tagging Helzberg in our engagement reel I had made. Since Andie was the one who entered us, she got the call on 12/7/21. I was at work, I knew they were announcing, but hadn't heard. We had previously scheduled a family night at a Christmas bar so I didn't bother texting her to ask. We all showed up at Chicken N Pickle to enjoy the evening when Andie pulls out a sign that said "19 days until we wed." My family proceeded to ask, are you sure you want to do this? The answer was pretty clear! Helzberg hooked us up with free wedding bands, a VIP tailgate experience, 30 free lower level tickets, & a media team! What a dream!
Our wedding on 12/26/21 was a dream! The thing is, I've always dreamed of either a big KC wedding or marrying my love with our toes in the sand on a warm beach. Well, Arrowhead wasn't exactly either. It was amazing and everything I couldn't dream of. The problem was that it was such a limited group of people who got to actually see the ceremony and celebrate us. We already had a trip to Mexico planned in May to celebrate Chad's 40th birthday. Instead of waiting until 2/3/23 to have our toes in the sand to have a more intimate, spiritual ceremony, we (I should probably say 'I' since Chad could care less lol) decided to not drag it out. We are already married after all. It will be way more low key, and an excuse to have a few more join us as my Uncle takes us through the ceremony including scripture, personal vows, and intimate time with family and friends who can make the trip out. We understand the late notice and unexpected spending is not ideal, but invites were not sent out for this ceremony. We do have spots for anyone who might be interested in coming out to celebrate with us 5/7-5/11 and celebrate Chad turning the big FOUR OH! If you want more information, text Chad or me! We are thrilled to have anyone who can make it out! much love.
