Jordyn and Alex met in De Soto Middle School in 8th grade computers class. That is when they first caught eachothers eyes across computer screens, as Alex would flash his mouse light in Jordyn’s eyes to get her attention. Needless to say…. It worked.
Alex was in a small town emo/metal band at the time he and Jordyn had started dating in high school. The band had booked the gymnasium at their local middle school for a gig, where they shared their first kiss before the show.
I had been tossing the idea around for a couple months, and knew after the holidays that I was ready to find a ring and pop the question. After thinking through how I was going to propose, I ended up coming up with this hopeful, yet silly romantic jesture. I was going to make something up that I had to drive to my familys place in the middle of a weekend, head up and pick a ring, and come back and surprise Jordyn. I wanted it to be authentic and wild, but the world had crazier plans in mind. To my surprise, I chose the weekend that the world basically would shut down, throwing an indefinte wrench in my plans as COVID19 swept the nation. With stores being closed and travel restricted, I didnt know what I was going to do. Thinking it through, I found myself rememebring my Dad showing me my Mom’s claddagh ring and explaining to me how it stood friendship, loyalty, and love. I knew it was the perfect symbol of our relationship and the only acceptable place holder to pop the question. After getting the ring shipped, I asked Jordyn how fun a date night would be at the house. This was a couple weeks into COVID and it was hard to be excited, but Jordyn immidately jumped on the idea. I bought steaks, we dressed up like we were going out, and we split a bottle of wine at a candlelit dinner in our kitchen as we talked for hours. I tried video taping the proposal, but we talked through the battery before I was able to pop the question. Dinner was perfect, we had been talking and smiling all night, and I was finally ready to ask her to spend the rest of our lives together. My speech wasnt long and to the point. She makes me stronger, happier, and myself and its all Ive ever wanted; unconiditional love. She said yes, and we startedour pandemic as fiancees.
