Nakerah and I met by chance in 2006 at her godmother’s house, who happened to live in the same neighborhood as me. A year later, my parents moved us to a new town, and I found myself starting over at a new school—only to discover that Nakerah was there too, in the same grade. From that moment on, we became inseparable. For nearly 20 years, we have grown up side by side, sharing laughter, tears, milestones, and countless memories (with plenty more laughter in between). Through every season of life, she has been my constant, and I cannot imagine this day without her standing beside me.

This here is my dawg, Chris. Even though I haven’t known him very long, he and his wife, Nakerah, welcomed me like family from day one. I first met him on my very first outing with Jorden—we were invited to a Mardi Gras–themed party in the A, where one of his frat brothers was DJing. From that night on, the rest was history. Chris quickly became a genuine friend, and I’m grateful to have him in my life.

I met Nisha at Firehouse Subs, where we quickly went from coworkers to friends. She later introduced me to Triston, and for that alone I will always be grateful. Even when I was living in Texas, Nisha never missed a day—she checked in on me every single day without fail. She walked beside me through the early days of motherhood while navigating motherhood herself for the very first time. Her support, love, and consistency mean more to me than words can express. I am endlessly grateful for everything this friendship has given me, and I couldn’t be more excited to have her standing by my side as my maid of honor.

My first baby—my little sister. As long as I can remember, she has always been right by my side. We’ve shared so many memories that I’ll cherish forever, from playing dress-up and putting on family fashion shows to laughing until our stomachs hurt. As we grew older, our bond only got stronger. I remember helping her get ready for prom—doing her hair, makeup, and watching her shine with confidence. Seeing her walk into that moment with such grace made me proud in a way I can’t fully explain. Watching her grow into the beautiful, strong, and independent young woman she is today has been one of the greatest joys of my life. She has faced life’s challenges with courage, and she does it all with a heart full of love. I am so proud of the person she has become, and I’m incredibly grateful to have her standing with me on this special day. I’m talking about IN ITTT!! We’ve known each other since birth—almost 30 years! How many people can say they’ve had someone in their life for that long? From singing and dancing at Alpha, swinging shirts around like helicopters, dancing in the Name of Love, and singing “Fallin’” like we’ve been through something… to now, having her standing beside me on my big day. Through distance and time, I'm so grateful to still have her in my life. I’m proud to call her my best friend and cousin, and I couldn’t imagine doing this without her.

I’ve had the privilege of watching her life unfold in the most beautiful way. I was there to witness her marriage to Deandre, and I’ve watched them build a loving family together. Seeing them welcome four beautiful children has been a joy, and those kids will always have a special place in my heart. Through every season, G’ana has been a loyal friend—someone who has shown love, support, and genuine care.
