Jordan and Victoria met while working at Camp Don Lee, a sailing camp they had both attended throughout their childhoods. For years they had narrowly avoided fate, never crossing paths until their first day on sailing staff. Victoria discretely asked Jordan how to rig a Sunfish — she didn’t want to appear incompetent, but over the last year the relatively simple task had been forgotten. Jordan said, “Oh no, I was going to ask you.” Then they burned a mac and cheese cup, and the rest is history.

On one of the few free weekends in Victoria’s vet school calendar, the two embarked on a three-day backpacking trip in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. They were joined by several of their closest friends, all of whom knew the secret purpose of this adventure. Overcast skies parted at Charlie’s Bunion, a striking rock formation overlooking a sea of trees and fog. It was there that Jordan asked Victoria to marry him, and she said yes.
