Our first date was at Pub Dog in Baltimore, MD (Federal Hill). After meeting the week before, Matt gathered the courage to ask Jordan out on a date. As simple as it was, all we needed was beer and pizza to enjoy each other's company. Matt knew it was meant to be as Jordan easily finished a full large pizza on her own. This led to a date the next weekend, the weekend after that, and it has not stopped since!
Matt knew Jordan was the one early on in the relationship, and after slight procrastination, the proposal happened just after their 3 year anniversary. The proposal had many curveballs throughout the process, but we will stick to the night of to keep it short and sweet (you can ask us for the longer version). The planning for the proposal actually took place just a few days before. This is so it could be done before the holidays and with all 3 of Jordan's siblings in town. The best way to tell this story is to tell you the plan and then how it actually happened... The Plan: Jordan was invited to a "Surhoff-only" family dinner cooked by her sister Kendall at their parents house and Matt was not going to join. Jordan has a Pilates class every Monday night, so Matt was to drive over while she was there and help to set up the proposal area in her parent's house with her siblings and parents. He would light candles, set up his phone to record the video, and wait patiently for when she arrived. What Actually Happened: Towards the end of the day, Matt received a phone call from Jordan - it turns out that her Pilates class was cancelled and she headed off to her parent's house early! Matt then had to scramble and re-organize with her Kendall and best friend Gabby. The plan became much more complicated: Matt would need to leave later than expected as to not arrive at the same time as Jordan. He would then need to park at the next house down from her parents house so she could not see him drive in. This also happened to be about a half mile walk in the dark. When he parked, he notified Gabby so she could call Jordan with an "urgent issue" that required an immediate talk with her best friend to occupy Jordan while Matt could sneak in. We won't include what the "urgent issue" was, but lets just say she deserves an Oscar. Matt then snuck around the back door and quickly went into the Library which was being used for the proposal room (Matt of course forgot to light the candles). After an emotional conversation with her best friend, she gets off to immediately have a "conversation" with her dad in the Library. From her childhood, she only saw this as a sign she was in trouble! After all of this, the plan ended up working! Her father led her in, closed the door, and Matt stumbled through his proposal to get a yes! Afterwards, Jordan's parents, Austin, Molly, Kendall, and Mason were all there to celebrate the occasion. The secret remained in tact, and we will all remember this as an eventful and beautiful night.
