Visit the beautiful city of Siena just a 15 minute car journey from Monaciano. Siena is Italy's loveliest medieval city, and a trip worth making even if you are only in Italy for just a few days. Siena's heart is its central piazza known as Il Campo where you can recreate our engagement and send us all your photos! (remember your flats, there are a few hills).
Have you ever experienced the excitement of truffle hunting? Have you ever wanted to find out how the dogs find the truffles and alert us to them? With Siena Tartufi you can do it, you will have a unique experience, in the company of the faithful Alessandro, owner of Siena Tartufi who has 15 years experience. At the end of the tour you can take home some truffle flavoured ingredients or experience a truffle tasting which we highly recommend!
As you turn off the main road to arrive at Monteriggioni, you'll find a parking lot at the bottom of the hill. Leave your car here and start the short climb to enter the village through the Franca or Romea Gate. A few steps in and you're already in the heart of the village in the main Piazza di Roma. Great for some picturesque shots, dinner and drinks! We recommend Antico Travaglio - Osteria Gelateria for some delicious food!
Siena Cathedral rising majestically in the city square, is one of Italy's most illustrious cathedrals. You can buy a dual ticket to visit the "gate of heaven" where you can climb the ladder to see panoramic views of Siena and Tuscany. These attractions do not open until 10am, however we recommend buying your tickets online or the day before you wish to visit to save time (your ticket will be valid for 3 days)
San Gimignano is a small walled medieval hill town in the province of Siena. Known as the Town of Fine Towers, San Gimignano is famous for its medieval architecture, unique in the preservation of about a dozen of its tower houses which with its hilltop setting and encircling walls form an unforgettable skyline
Every Wednesday there is a HUGE market in the centre of Siena, which we highly recommend visiting. The market is full of stalls selling a variety of items from clothes to local grown veggies. If you would like to visit we recommend going early to avoid the crowds which will also help with finding a car parking space. One thing you MUST try is the local speciality of a wild boar sandwich it is to die for!!! (If you are staying in Siena please play attention to the market signs as you cannot park in many places on Tuesday evening in preparation for the market on Wednesday)
