Early September 2013, Jaq was throwing a party; a party that Jordan was supposed to drive his sister Jayme to. One thing led to another and they didn't make it out that night, however Jordan followed Jaq on Twitter that same evening. Unfazed by the follow, Jaq didn't think much of it. That was until 2 weeks later when Jordan slid into her DMs with "Hey. I'm Jayme's brother." After chatting on Twitter for weeks, Jaq and Jordan realized they had a mutual friend that wasn't Jordan's sister. It just so happened that Zach, one of Jaq's good friends, was Jordan's class partner in electrical school. Zach started bringing Jordan to multiple parties, however Jaq and Jordan would just miss each-other at these events, never actually crossing paths in person. After a month of near misses, they officially met in person at White Spot for breakfast with Zach.

After becoming friends in September, Jordan and Jaq's friendship continued to grow. Not many people know of this, but on December 13, 2013 they went on their first solo hangout. They grabbed coffee in Murrayville and went on a walk around the town. Later that evening, Jordan messaged Jaq letting her know that he liked her, however Jaq turned him down and said she wasn't looking for a boyfriend. Little did she know she just denied her future husband. Somehow ignoring the awkwardness of the situation, their friendship persevered and Jaq joined Jordan's slo-pitch softball team the following April. Their friendship continued to blossom through the summer. Between softball and many coffee nights, Jaq and Jordan became very close. By August of 2014, Jaq had started crushing on Jordan and wanted to be more than friends, however she assumed that he had moved on after the December 2013 incident. One night while hanging with her best friend (Ellena) and Jordan's sister (Jayme), she admitted to them that she liked Jordan and wanted to pursue more with him. The girls then concocted a fool-proof plan. Step 1: go to Ellena's house. Step 2: invite Jordan and the girls' boyfriends over to hangout. Step 3: flirt with Jordan and see if he still has feelings for Jaq. Nevertheless, what seemed to be a fool-proof plan wasn't, and at the end of the night Jaq was still clueless as to what Jordan was feeling. However, all hope was not lost. The next night, Jaq, Jordan and Jayme decided to hangout last-minute. After a few hours into a movie marathon Jayme left, and Jordan grabbed Jaq's hand...
