No, you do not have to stay on Mackinac Island. On July 2nd you can take the ferry over to the island before the 3:30 ceremony, but you will need to be ready for the wedding on the ferry since you will not have a reserved room to get ready in. The last ferry leaves Mackinac Island at 10 pm, so you will have to be sure to leave the reception with enough time.
There are many options when it comes to staying on Mackinac Island. You do not have to stay at Mission Point Resort. However, Mission Point Resort is where the wedding will take place and where you can book a room at a discounted rate. Almost all Mackinac Island hotels and B&Bs require a two night minimum stay on weekends in the summer. A few other hotels that still have availability with a 2 night stay include: The Chippewa, Inn on Mackinac, Lake View Hotel, Lilac Tree Suites & Spa, Main Street Inn & Suites, and The Murray Hotel. Hotels with availability that require a 3 night stay include: Bicycle Street Inn, The Grand Hotel, Harbour View Inn, and the Island House.
Wear whatever makes you feel your best, but we will suggest men to wear a suit (with or without a tie) and ladies to wear a short or long dress, jumpsuit, or pantsuit. We will be outside for the ceremony and cocktail hour, so make sure to dress for the weather and bring your sunglasses if needed. The ceremony will be on grass so plan your shoes accordingly.
Yes! Mission Point Resort allows dogs in the Strait Lodge. Just be sure that you let the resort know you plan on bringing your dog by calling reservations at (800)833-7711. You will be charged a one-time, non-refundable $100 cleaning fee.
When you are unloading your car at Shepler's, they will assist you in tagging your luggage. After your bag is tagged, they will load it onto the ferry and it will be transferred directly to Mission Point Resort. Once you arrive at Mission Point Resort, head to the check in desk and be sure to hand them your luggage tags. The front desk will insure that your luggage goes to the correct room.
If you can easily transport your bike, then you should definitely bring it. A bike is the best way to get around the island and to explore. You will be charged a fee to bring your bike over on the ferry, but it is much cheaper than renting a bike.
There are 3 ways you can get to Mission Point Resort: walk, bike, or carriage ride. It is only a 10 minute walk from the ferry dock to Mission Point Resort. If you brought your bike, then you can bike through downtown to arrive at Mission Point Resort. A hotel horse-carriage runs on a set schedule for guests arriving from the ferry and heading to Mission Point Resort.
