Francine and Jordan had their first real conversation at the end just after an Environmental Biology class in college; they were both waiting in line to talk to their professor, and Francine decided she'd rather talk to someone than wait quietly in line. She struck up a conversation with the guy behind her, and it came up in conversation that they both enjoy rock climbing. In about five minutes they'd arranged to go climbing that same evening after class.
After being climbing partners for about a month, Jordan extended an invitation. "I'm going to Oregon for about two weeks- I'll be doing construction in my boss' old house for part of it, but I'll be camping and climbing around the state for the rest of it. Want to come with?" Francine, in her infinite wisdom (and impulsivity) said, "That sounds great! I've never been to Oregon before!" In Oregon, J&F painted the basement of Jordan's boss' old house in Portland, went climbing at Smith Rocks State Park, and camped under the stars in Bend and by the Columbia River. *Disclaimer: Please don't go on multi-week inter-state road trips with people you may not know very well. Luckily, this is a love story and not a true-crime telenovela.
While Jordan and Francine met in class, their friendship was able to grow after they became climbing partners. J took F climbing for the first time outside, and together they've climbed indoors and outdoors across the west coast. It's been 6 years of climbing and falling, mostly for each other, but each has caught the other every time.
