We truly believe that destiny brought us together on Labor Day, 2013 -- our first date after connecting online. The initial eye contact was powerful, the exchange of smiles genuine and beautiful; there was clearly something there. It quickly became evident that we laughed at the same things, held the same values, and felt strongly about putting our loved ones first at all times. Simply put, there was a spark and we both felt it. Despite living an hour apart in different states, we made trips to see each-other for the next two-and-a-half years before moving in together in April, 2016. Our bond only grew stronger from that point forward; we can't believe we ever managed to live apart! By the time David proposed to Gloria in August 2017, plans for a wonderful future together had been discussed many times -- including a house in the suburbs and one or two beautiful children. Most importantly, we are resolutely committed to the little things that make our love so special and unique; welcome-home hugs with open arms, loving text messages in Spanish, weekend morning coffee for Gloria delivered with love, daily reminders that our hearts are united forever and beyond. We can't wait to celebrate the happiest day of our lives surrounded by those we cherish the most -- our family and friends.
The instant a cruise through the Bahamas was booked for our summer getaway, David knew he would pop the question during that trip. First and foremost, however, he needed to arrange a meeting with Gloria’s parents to ask for permission. Despite not being fluent in Spanish, David composed his thoughts in the Otálora family’s native language – with help from Gloria’s wonderful sisters – and was given the full blessing of Juan and Elva Otálora to marry their daughter. The proposal materialized on the night of August 13, 2017, on the top floor of a beautiful cruise ship as ocean winds accentuated the moment. While Gloria’s answer was a resounding “yes,” she soon followed up with the statement, “…now we need to talk to my parents.” To her surprise, David’s entire conversation with Juan and Elva had been videotaped by Gloria’s family, so he proudly showed his new fiancée exactly how it happened! Gloria was over the moon with happiness as we celebrated with selfies galore. It was truly an unforgettable moment that only our wedding day will surpass in beauty!
