The first time this beautiful couple met was in their younger years. Moreno had a crush on Jonice for years but he never acted on it. Jonice was running some errands, in Downtown Durham, when they crossed paths again. She walked past him and he said “Hi Jasmine”. Jonice looked around and said my name isn’t Jasmine. Moreno said, “well your name starts with a J”. He then said, “you don’t remember me from middle school, I am Moreno”. They chatted for a little bit and she proceeded to ask who does his hair. She’s a hairstylist, which is the perfect pitch to give someone your number. They got to know each other more and made it official. (Did he get his hair done)? He did a couple weeks later! Who would think 26 years later, that they would run into each other again and their forever love story would begin.

The proposal happened on June 4th, 2021; it was so perfect in every way. Our kids had come to spend the summer with us and I had a feeling that he would probably propose soon. I was trying to be prepared just in case, so I took the initiative to order 3 dresses. I would be up for any date that he had planned because, in my mind he was going to propose soon. I wanted to make sure I was well prepared for the day that he decides to propose. Fast Forward, my niece invited us to a graduation party for her daughter and asked that everyone be dressed in formal attire. I thought to myself that’s weird because her daughter is only 5 years old and why is she having such a big party? I noticed my daughter had a big bag of sanitizers on her bed with myself and Moreno’s name personalized on them. I said to myself don’t go snooping, but for the next few days I made sure everyone was dressed perfect and prepared just in case. I kept thinking to myself, girl you’re overreacting it's not your time just yet, we are really just celebrating Nova’s graduation. The day of Nova’s graduation party or so I thought, everyone in our household was dressed so elegant. But what really stuck out to me was that everyone left before we did. On the ride to the party, my niece called and asked him to bring ice. I said to myself, "Why is she calling him and not her aunt (me)?" Once we pulled up, I saw Moreno’s sister's car in the parking lot. I asked him, "Why is Che here at my niece's graduation party?" He ignored me as if I didn't say anything. So we parked and got out of the car, then he asked me to fix his tie. I figured he was trying to prolong time, before we entered the building. At this point I am starting to get antsy, because i wondering why Che is here. Once we entered the building, there was all of our family and friends that we love, screaming SUPRISE! I just kept thinking to myself, he did all of this for me and the tears just flowed uncontrollably! Everybody was yelling turn around; when I did finally turnaround, he was on one knee asking me to MARRY HIM!
