Mike and Fannetta met in 2014 through their mutual friend, Jahmila. For four years, they attended the same summer party, laughing and flirting the night away, only to leave those events and continue living very separate lives on the north and south sides of Chicago, respectively. Then, after the fifth summer of mutual, yet seemingly (to Fannetta) casual, flirtation and fun, Mike whipped out his flip phone to ask Fannetta for her number— and didn’t even flinch when she hesitated to even realize that’s what he was doing. Three years and some change later, they embarked on falling in love, exploring new destinations together, watching more TV than either of them would expect, and sharing an address. Life and love just flowed between them and everyone around them could see it. And on that brisk fall evening of November 27, 2022, after a wonderful date downtown, Mike and Fannetta walked through the door of the home they share, not even pausing to remove his coat, and told Fannetta and being with her was one of the best decisions he’d made— but he could do one better.
