The Iconic Proposal

October 24th, 2024

In April 2022, we moved in together into our cute little apartment in the Elmwood Village. As we explored the area, we started noticing art all over the sidewalks and streets everywhere we went. We came to realize this was the work of the famous Buffalo Pothole Bandit. The Buffalo Pothole Bandit is an anonymous street artist in Buffalo who transforms potholes and sidewalk cracks into colorful, creative public art using mosaics, tiles, cement, and various other objects. Following the Pothole Bandit and finding new artwork quickly became one of our favorite things to do together. Fast forward to October 2024, Bobby was determined to find a unique way to propose that would completely surprise me (Katherine). He went out on a limb and sent the Pothole Bandit a message on social media—and they responded! From there, they started working together to craft the perfect proposal hole, picking out the colors, art pieces, and design. Two days before the official proposal, Bobby and the Pothole Bandit met up and created the artwork on the sidewalk at Elmwood and Utica (with the help of our great friend, Jack Rice). On the day of the proposal, I had absolutely no idea. Bobby told me we had plans to go to dinner on Elmwood that evening. When we got to the location of the proposal hole, Bobby got down on one knee and popped the question. I had absolutely no idea that was his plan all along. It was the most unique and creative proposal I could have ever imagined. It was perfect and the best story I love sharing with everyone. One could say our love is cemented. 😊 (The proposal hole is located in front of Blue Mountain Coffees on Elmwood and Utica if you would like to check it out)
