Flight
The easiest airport to fly into is Rome Fiumicino (FCO) — it’s about a 2.5-hour drive or train ride to Assisi. From the airport, you can rent a car, or hop on a train to Assisi (both are simple, scenic routes). If you plan on taking the train to Assisi right after landing, take the Leonardo Express train from the airport to Roma Termini (~30 min ride). From there, you can board a train to Assisi.
Flight
Alternatively, you can fly into Florence (FLR) - it’s roughly the same distance from Assisi (2.5 hours), and we’ve taken this route ourselves. The train ride from Florence winds through vineyards, cypress-dotted hills, and medieval towns. Florence is the perfect place to explore for a night or two if you would rather begin your journey there!
