How We Met

She Skipped, He Prayed

This is a real Coffee-Meets-Bagel success story! After texting for a couple weeks, we met for dinner one frigid Thursday evening in March. Jon, being Jon, showed up 15 minutes early. Hannah, being Hannah, waited in the car until it was the exact time to run in. All Jon remembers is that Hannah skipped through the doors, and he was sold. Hannah definitely does not recall this happening. After chatting forever about March Madness, the food came out and without a beat, Jon prayed for the meal. Hannah was sold. Jon got a second date the following Thursday. Hannah was super nervous about a film role she was about to shoot in NY, but even more nervous about the date. He asked, "Are you nervous?" and Hannah thought he could tell she was petrified about the date. But as it turns out, he was referring to the film shoot. Whoops. He ended the night saying he would pray for her and for the shoot. That got Jon his third date a week later. That third date was the night Jon grabbed Hannah's hand. She freaked out but played it cool. On the fourth date two days later, Jon kissed Hannah's forehead. In retrospect, it was really cute. At the time, Hannah freaked out. She did not play it cool. Jon apologized. Profusely. Hannah and Jon went on many more dates. Jon no longer is sorry he kissed her forehead.

How He Asked

The Ideal Woman

A Thursday evening in March a little over a year later, Jon and Hannah went to Castle Rock in Marblehead, MA, a beautiful area right on the coast, to let doggy Leia run around. Hannah did not suspect a thing, as they had been here before. Jon asked Hannah if she wanted to climb the rocks. Hannah said, no thanks, she didn't have the right shoes for it. Jon went up anyway and Leia followed. Hannah was left slightly confused, not realizing he was trying to figure out a plan B. Whoops again! She eventually found a way up. Jon asked if he could read a bible passage to her. Again, not atypical, and again, Hannah didn't suspect a thing. Jon started reading Proverbs 31, the famed passage about the "ideal woman" / "virtuous wife." Hannah thought this to be an interesting choice, but still didn't get it. Then Jon got down on one knee. And Hannah finally figured it out. :)
