Travel Note
ARRIVING AT QRO - You will deboard the airplane, walk to a room and stand in line for Mexico customs. - The customs agent will ask your purpose for visiting and specifically the number of days. Just say vacation and add an extra week's worth of days just to be safe. - After your passport is stamped, you go to a small room to collect your luggage. - Then you'll be asked if you have anything to declare. You don't. - You might be asked to have your luggage X-Ray'd, they do this at random for safety. - Your carry-on will be inspected at a table because they don't want you bringing fresh food into the country. - You'll enter a lobby with glass doors. Head straight ahead to those doors to exit and you will see a guy with a BajioGo sign. He speaks English and will have the name of the person the confirmation was placed under, and your AirBnB/Hotels address to bring you to! - Sit Back and Enjoy the Ride :) DEPARTING QRO - The van is coming to your AirBnb/Hotel to pick you up, look at your confirmation to see what time the van is arriving and be packed ready to go. It might seem a little early but this is because it's a 1hr 20min ride, an international flight, and it's a shared van. - After checking in at QRO airport, there is only one security line. - After security, there is only 1 waiting room and like 6 gates in QRO airport, but there is a Starbucks there. - It can be a little confusing finding which one is your gate, so try to ask people as it gets close to boarding time. Note on BajioGo: - BajioGo travel service tracks your flight numbers, so if your flight is delayed, don't worry they will be there. However, if you miss a flight and get on a different one, you must let them know so a van will be waiting for you at the right time.
Travel Note
The nearest airport to San Miguel de Allende (and with the better highway) is Queretaro (QRO), serviced by United, American, and Delta. We found the most convenient flight to be United from LGA at 7:30 am, arriving at QRO at 2:30 pm. with an hour and a half layover in Houston (do not make layovers shorter than 90 minutes) allowing you to arrive in San Miguel during daylight hours when it's beautiful. A second airport choice is Leon/Guanajuato (BJX) Meeting you at the airport (whether it is QRO, BJX, MEX), Baijiogo, a shared shuttle service can drive you to San Miguel and drop you off at your hotel. From QRO it is the shortest distance, 1.5 hours, and $30 per person each way. From MEX, Bajiogo shuttle to SMA is $105 and 5 hours For those of you interested in Mexico City, I would suggest it as a side trip after San Miguel, as it is an additional 5 hour bus ride away. For example, book a one way arrival flight from LGA to QRO, with a final departing date from MEX to either JFK or LGA. Do Not use AIFA airport, as it is located two hours away, outside CDMX If interested in Mexico City, we can provide info separately on how to get there, where to stay, and what to see.
Flight
I strongly recommend flying in and out of QRO (Queretero) Airport. Make sure you have at least an hour on your layover into QRO and at least an hour and a half layover from QRO, because you will need to go through customs on your way back into the US at your layover airport.

Hotel
San Miguel de Allende is a walkable town, with everything centered around the central Jardin. You'll want to stay in Centro, as close to the center of town as possible. Being a mountain town, beware any lodging promo that says "incredible views!" That just means it's located at the top of a very steep hill, and a drag to walk to. Here are some suggested Hotels in good locations, ranging generally upwards in price. Check out their websites, and you can also book directly. And look at the map!
