Check National Park Services for updates about access and closures. Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park is located on the island of Hawai‘i. From Hilo: 30 miles southwest on Highway 11 (a 45 minute drive); from Kailua-Kona: 96 miles southeast on Highway 11 (2 to 2 1/2 hour drive), or 125 miles through Waimea and Hilo via highways 19 and 11 (2 1/2 to 3 hours). Save time at the entrance and pay your entry fee before you come by purchasing a digital pass through Recreation.gov: The following passes are now available: • Private vehicle ($30, valid for seven days) • Motorcycle ($25, valid for seven days) • Individual pedestrian/bicycle ($15, valid for seven days) The pass must be purchased and downloaded to a computer or mobile device, and printing the pass prior to your park arrival is recommended due to limited connectivity. The digital pass can be purchased up to six months ahead of arrival.

Punaluʻu is easily accessible from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and is a recommended Volcano area activity. Punaluʻu beach lies just off Highway 11 between Volcano Village and Naalehu. From Volcano Village, take Hwy 11 South. Then, turn makai (towards the ocean) on Alanui Road between mile markers 56 and 57. If you pass Whittington Beach Park, you have driven too far. FEE: Free

Hāpuna Beach is located north of Kailua Kona close to mile marker 70 of Hwy 19 in the south Kohala district. Turn Ma Kai (towards the ocean) at the sign for Hāpuna Beach State Park and continue for 1/4 mile to the large parking lot. Do not leave valuables in your car! PARKING + ENTRANCE FEE Visitors need to pay an entrance fee and a parking fee to help maintain the park, both fees are waived for Hawaiʻi residents that can show a valid state ID or DL. The entrance fee is $5.00 per individual The parking fee is $10 per vehicle
