Shari and Jonathan met in the Spring of 2019 at Onondaga Community College when the two were members of BASIC College Ministries. During one BASIC meeting, Shari observed Jonathan leading a group discussion and was impressed by his leadership and dedication to his faith. She quietly prayed, “Lord, I would date a guy like Jonathan,” but thought nothing would come of it. In the Fall semester, Shari and Jonathan grew closer as they served as President and Vice President of BASIC together. Throughout this time, they bonded over their dedication to their Christian faith, as well as their shared love of superhero movies, YA novels, and cooking. While Jonathan knew he had feelings for Shari, he was hesitant to confess them to her, as he didn’t believe she felt the same way. Little did he know that Shari was eagerly waiting for Jonathan to ask her on a date. Her family routinely offered her opportunities to invite Jonathan to family outings, Thanksgiving dinner, and other events. However, Shari was insistent that Jonathan be the first one to make a move. Eventually, with the help of a mutual friend, Jonathan found the courage to ask Shari out on December 29th, 2019. Their first date was on January 1st, 2020, and since then, Shari and Jonathan have only grown closer together. The couple had agreed early on to prepare for marriage as soon as they were both finished with college. In 2024, Jonathan began this preparation, searching and saving for a ring, seeking counsel from spiritual mentors and friends, and communicating with Shari's family. On Monday, May 26th 2025, Jonathan finally asked Shari to marry him. She said— well, you know what she said; you're on their wedding website! Shari and Jonathan's love for each other has grown sweeter every day, strengthened by a durability that comes with time, dedication, and the guiding hand of the Lord. Over the course of more than 6 years together, the two have undergone various challenges and stressors that can make or break a relationship, from navigating college and career changes to weathering the complexities of faith, family, mental health, and personal loss. Nevertheless, their faith in God and love for each other remained the constants that kept them afloat amidst the turbulent waves of life. Each of them would describe the other as a true testament to God’s faithfulness in their own lives, and their relationship as one of His greatest blessings to them. Shari and Jonathan are filled with joy and anticipation as they embark on this new chapter together as husband and wife!
