Ferry Building
The beautiful Ferry Building is an easy 15 minute walk from the hotel. You will find a variety of shops and food vendors inside. Stop by Saturday morning between 8 AM and 2 PM to see the city's most loved Farmer's Market! Try new foods, learn to shuck your own oysters, and see some of San Francisco’s best-known chefs, and most notable farmers, shopping and socializing.
Fisherman's Wharf
This is the best place to go to grab one of San Francisco's famous sourdough bread bowls full of clam chowder. See the famous Boudin Bread factory and catch beautiful views of Alcatraz. There are several amazing restaurants here. One of the most popular is Scoma's for iconic waterfront dining and fresh seafood. Also, the Buena Vista Cafe is a must stop especially on a cloudy, foggy San Francisco day. This is where the Irish coffee was first perfected in the United States in 1952 (and where they still serve up to 2,000 per day!).
Alcatraz Island
Book a tour to see the secluded, yet beautiful Alcatraz Island! Learn about its complex history as a federal prison housing history's most infamous prisoners and how came to represent Native American civil rights in 1969. Note: Tours book quickly so book tickets well-in advance and make sure to dress warmly. For a unique experience, try the Alcatraz island night-tour!
Ghirardelli Chocolate Experience
Come visit the historic Ghirardelli Square for some great shopping and, most importantly, the Ghirardelli chocolate factory. There are 3 Ghirardelli chocolate storefronts here, but be sure to go to the Ghirardelli Ice Cream and Chocolate Shop for free samples of chocolate and the best ice cream sundaes in the city. Don't forget the fudge!
Chinatown
See the beautiful Dragon's Gate, grab Dim Sum, attend a tea tasting at Red Blossom Tea Company, and make your own personalized fortune cookie message at the Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory. This tiny factory was established in 1962 where fortune cookies are still being made by hand to this day.
North Beach
Visit the Italian-American neighborhood of North Beach! Catch a view of Coit Tower or look for the famous parrots of Telegraph Hill. Stop in for a drink at Vesuvio Cafe, made famous as a hangout of Jack Kerouac. Find the best Italian restaurants the city has to offer including the famous Tony's Pizza Napoletana (trust us, it's worth the wait!) and Stella's Bakery. Stop by the Goorin Bros hat company to get your very own authentic Heisenberg hat from Breaking Bad, peruse the shelves at the beloved City Lights bookstore, or sample wines at Café Zoetrop located inside the historic Sentinel building.
Ride a Cable Car
You can't come to San Francisco without riding a cable car and there's a cable car line located directly outside of The Omni hotel! How To: It's easy to find and board a cable car. Choose from three cable car lines - two start at Powell and Market and continue to the Fisherman's Wharf area; one starts at California and Market and continues to Van Ness Avenue. Board at the cable car turntables (the beginning or end of each route) or look for the brown-and-white cable car sign posts. How to Pay: Click “View” below to learn about purchasing tickets for the MUNI (the name of the public transportation system used in San Francisco) and the cable cars. If you choose not to buy tickets in advance, be sure to bring exact change for your ride. Tips for Getting Around using Public Transportation: Use Apple or Google maps on your phone and after putting in your directions to your destination, select the option for public transportation.
