(Told From Her Perspective) As crazy as this sounds, we met playing a simple game of cornhole at Newberry College. I whooped JJ's butt and my trash talking had him intrigued. Later that same night, The Red Sox were playing the Dodgers in the World Series. I have always been a big Red Sox fan, but little did I know the boy I beat in cornhole was also a huge fan as well. When I got to a baseball house, I realized the game wasn't on the tv. JJ helped me out, even quizzed me on my knowledge of the game and the teams. We immediately hit it off, but after that night, we never saw each other again for 3 whole years. We stayed in contact (dm'ing, texting, snapchatting, and talking on any/all the messaging apps), but never had the courage to ask each other out. The Lord was intentional with that time apart. He was molding us for the next time we would see each other. In 2021, I finally got enough confidence to ask JJ to breakfast when I was on a girls trip to Orlando. We grabbed brunch at First Watch and chatted for hours. I called my mom after, in tears and simply said "that man is my future husband." I knew my life had forever changed.
(Told From His Perspective) Five years removed from our first conversation; we were once again together ready to watch the Red Sox play the Dodgers. However, this time at Fenway Park as boyfriend and girlfriend. We walked into the stadium early as we had on-field batting practice passes, but the rain had other plans. We began to walk around Fenway Park and made our way to every part of the ballpark (I was nervous, and I was looking for the perfect spot, on the field was no longer an option because of the rain). We finally made it to the highest place in the entire park and there was a sense of peace that came over me. We were literally at Fenway Park, yet you could hear a pin drop where we stood. It was just her and I up there, feeling like we were on top of the world. It was now or never so I got on a knee and said many sweet words. Morgan barely got a yes out, but I am grateful she did. The feeling hasn’t left me either. I feel like I am on top of the world when I am with her because of who she is, how she loves, and what is to come. The proposal was special, but baby, I am ready for the “I do”.
