Friday, September 13th, from 6pm-10pm.
Downtown Brooklyn... at 248 Duffield, between Fulton + Willoughby (across from the Planet Fitness). It's directly across from the Hoyt stop on the 2/3, but extremely close to the R, A/C and F (Jay St/Metro Tech), as well as the G (Hoyt/Schmerhorn) and the Q (DeKalb) Enter the lobby and take the far elevator to the Roof (R).
Now a residential building, the architectural gem was completed around 1893, and served as the home of the S. Wechsler & Brother department store, specializing in dry goods, and later the flagship location of Martins Department Store, a specialty apparel retailer in the New York metropolitan area, which grew to six stores by the mid 1970s, before closing in 1979. The building is named after its original owner, Henry Offerman, a Brooklyn resident and president of the Brooklyn Sugar Refining Company,
There won't be a marriage ceremony! We'll be getting legally hitched at an undisclosed place/time.
Well, sure. But we've set up the registry (on this website!) as our preferred approach to gift giving.
There's been some confusion with the registry. Yes, there's only one gift there, and it's essentially a "go fund me" for our honeymoon. No china patterns or digital toasters. Please note: there is a minimal transaction fee for all gifts.
Unfortunately we have extremely limited space, and a guest list with no flexibility. Therefore, we're restricting to guest strictly to those on the invite. (Please reach out to us directly if this is an issue).
You are both a lush + a cheapskate. (Just kidding) Yes we will have an open bar at the Wedding Celebration with limited offerings (beer, tequila and one tequila-based specialty cocktail). There will also be non-alcoholic beverages offered. There will not, however, be an open bar at the other events (Bachelor/Bachelorette Party, Night Before Gathering and After Party)
Great question! Our lawyers have advised us to notify you that RSVPing to this event does constitute a commitment by the hosts to pay your admission. Yes. If you want to attend please purchase your own ticket. We don't believe however that you'll need to buy tickets in advance. There should be no problem purchasing admission at the door on the night of this event.
We've requested a gorgeous, cloudless evening of 70°F and a full moon... but we strongly advise guests to consult their preferred weather app in advance of the event (and dress accordingly). It does get breezy on the roof... so yeah, maybe you should go ahead and bring that cute little shoulder shawl.
Let's put it this way: if you don't like Mexican food you might reconsider your acceptance. The meal will be served buffet style and will include a Taco Bar. There will be vegetarian options.
No. Strict rules of the house.
The most convenient: valet parking at the Sheraton + Aloft Hotels (which I suspect would also be the most expensive) The closest: 388 Bridge Street (which is parallel to Duffield, one block west, between Fulton + Willoughby Also nearby: 236 Livingston Street... which is (interestingly) located at 237 Schermerhorn St.)
While we've forego the traditional Mexican "lazos" ritual, the money dance is on! In this tradition male guests "pay" to dance with the bride, and female guests "pay" to dance with the groom. Usually a bill is pinned to the bride's dress or groom's suit and then the well wisher extends his/her wishes for a prosperous marriage to them as they dance. Cash only. Credit cards not acceptable. So if you want to play... bring a stack of bills! (Pins will be provided)
The Offerman House is where we live. And we love it here. We're blessed that we can have this special evening at this special location. Please don't mess it up for us. Please respect our neighbors and this property.
