Question

Do I have to attend the ceremony, or can I just come to the reception?

Answer

We really hope you'll join us for the ceremony — it’s the part of the day that means the most to us, and we’d love to share that moment with all our loved ones before the party begins!

Question

How is a Catholic wedding different from the weddings many of us are used to?

Answer

A Catholic wedding with a full Mass is a bit different from many other ceremonies because it takes place within the context of a traditional church service. In addition to the exchange of vows and rings, the ceremony includes readings, prayers, hymns, and the celebration of the Eucharist (Communion). The service typically lasts about an hour, and while only practicing Catholics receive Communion, everyone is welcome to participate through prayer and song. It’s a beautiful, reverent, and sacred way to celebrate the sacrament of marriage.

Question

What time should I arrive?

Answer

Please plan to arrive at least 20 minutes before the ceremony begins at 11 a.m. so everyone can be seated and ready when the service starts. If you arrive early, take a moment to enjoy the beauty of St. James Church and its magnificent pipe organ—an instrument of over 2,200 pipes that fills the space with rich trumpet, flute, and string tones.

Question

How should we enter and where should we sit in St. James?

Answer

We encourage all guests to enter St. James through the main entrance on Bardstown Road. There will be ushers available to help guide guests to their seats. The pews extend straight from the center aisle, then angle forward. Please do not sit beyond the angle so the main area remains filled.
