We're Getting Married!

Oh, where to begin....We met 12 years ago in our local church. We became friends in our youth group. We then dated for 5 months when I was 15 and Jonathan was 16 years old. We broke up and stayed friends for many years. We continued to be in each others' lives and became a pillar for one another without realizing it. Many friends would hint at us to date or get married if we were still single by the time we hit 30, and we would always say "Nope! we are just friends", the idea never crossed our minds because of our cool friendship. One summer after serving at a youth camp together, the friendship for me became a little bit more than that and it just clicked for us. That’s pretty much when we thought, “This could be something.” After praying and seeking advice from friends and mentors in our lives, we started dating a little while after that. 3 years later and here we are! Having such a solid foundation of friendship is the thing that has helped us overcome some hardships throughout the years. We are so thankful it didn't work out until it did. We are so grateful to be surrounded by such amazing family and friends that have been through it all with us. God's timing is perfect.

Oh, por dónde empezar ... Nos conocimos hace 12 años en nuestra iglesia local. Nos hicimos amigos en nuestro grupo juvenil. Luego salimos de novios durante 5 meses cuando yo tenía 15 años y Jonathan tenía 16 años. Rompimos y seguimos siendo amigos por muchos años. Continuamos en la vida de los cada uno y nos convertimos en un pilar el uno para el otro sin darnos cuenta. Muchos amigos nos insinúan para salir o casarnos si todavía estuviéramos solteros cuando llegamos a los 30, y siempre deciamos "¡No! Solo somos amigos", la idea nunca se nos pasó por la cabeza debido a nuestra buena amistad. Un verano después de servir juntos en un campamento juvenil, la amistad para mí se volvió un poco más que eso y simplemente hizo clic para nosotros. Eso es más o menos cuando pensamos: "Esto podría ser algo". Después de orar y buscar el consejo de amigos y mentores en nuestras vidas, comenzamos a salir de novios un poco después de eso. ¡3 años después y aquí estamos! Tener una base tan sólida de amistad es lo que nos ha ayudado a superar algunas dificultades a lo largo de los años. Estamos muy agradecidos de que no funcionó hasta que lo hizo. Estamos muy agradecidos de estar rodeados por familiares y amigos tan increíbles que han pasado por todo esto con nosotros. El tiempo de Dios es perfecto.

On a rainy humid day, Jonathan told me to get ready to run an errand with him in NJ, After that he mentioned that today would be a day "just for us" and that he was going to show me the park where he had riden his bike before. The park was beautiful and the sun was out. We began to walk on a path, along the path I saw a wooden sign that said "I will do my best to always be there for you, I can't imagine my life without you." I thought to myself what a cute sign someone left there...We continued walking down the path and I saw yet another sign that said "You're the BEST thing to ever come into my LIFE and I will always love you." It began to click that I was walking on the path of our own proposal. I arrived to the last sign that asked me "With that being said, Mi Flaquita, Will you Marry Me?” I turned around and he was down on one knee. I said OFCOURSE! and he asked "Is that a yes?" and I screamed "YES!" and all of a sudden, our family and friends came from behind the bushes and surprised me. I began to cry tears of happiness and joy. I couldn't believe this moment had finally come! I had spent 5 weekends getting ready and assuming the proposal would be that day. Joke was on me! Jonathan had been planning the perfect proposal for months and it was just that. We're so excited to celebrate this next chapter in our lives with you.

En un día lluvioso y húmedo, Jonathan me dijo que me preparara para hacer un recado con él en NJ, después de eso mencionó que hoy sería un día "solo para nosotros" y que me iba a mostrar el parque donde había montado su bicicleta antes. El parque era hermoso y había salido el sol. Comenzamos a caminar por un sendero, a lo largo del sendero vi un letrero de madera que decía "Haré todo lo posible para estar siempre allí para ti, no puedo imaginar mi vida sin ti". Pensé qué lindo cartel había dejado alguien allí ... Continuamos caminando por el camino y vi otro cartel que decía "Eres lo MEJOR que ha entrado en mi VIDA y siempre te amaré". Empeze a entender que estaba caminando en el camino de nuestro propio compromiso de matrimonio. Llegué a la última señal que me preguntaba "Y con eso dicho, Mi Flaquita, Quieres casarte conmigo?" Me di la vuelta y él estaba sobre una rodilla. Yo dije ¡CLARO! y él preguntó "¿Eso es un sí?" y grité "¡SÍ!" y de repente, nuestra familia y amistades vinieron de detrás del bosque y me sorprendieron. Comencé a llorar lágrimas de felicidad y alegría. ¡No podía creer que este momento finalmente hubiera llegado! Había pasado 5 fines de semana preparándome y suponiendo que el compromiso sería ese día. Broma estaba sobre mí! Jonathan había estado planeando el compromiso perfecto durante meses y asi mismo fue. Estamos muy emocionados de celebrar este próximo capítulo en nuestras vidas con ustedes.
