This is Carolina's grandparent's favorite breakfast place - and our favorite place to drink hot chocolate. We highly recommend it to any and all chocolate lovers. Something to keep in mind is that it is walk-in only.
Some of you may know that mofongo is the dish of Puerto Rico. For anyone wanting to try some good mofongo, this is where we recommend you go. For those going here, we highly recommend you also try their "tostones de pana", which is the Puerto Rican equivalent of fried breadfruit.
We highly recommend Barrachina to anyone in the Old San Juan area looking for a good pina colada. It is unclear which restaurant the pina colada originated from, as Barrachina and the Caribe Hilton have both been fighting for the title for years. Either way, they both have great food and even better pina coladas.
Titled one of the best cocktail bars in the world, La Factoria is the best place to visit if you want to hang out with friends while trying unique drinks. When you first walk in it seems like a small local bar but if you follow the doors with the red lights, you'll see that it is actually a series of six bars that you can walk between. It is popular amongst tourists and locals, and is within walking distance of the wedding venue.
For those staying in the Condado area, we highly recommend this fusion restaurant that serves a combination of Puerto Rican, Spanish, and Cuban flavors.
This is the bakery Carolina grew up eating at every Saturday when she lived in Puerto Rico, and it is the one place she always demands to go to when we visit. However, it is further than our other recommendations, so we only recommend this to those that will be renting a car to explore the island.
La Cueva del Chicken Inn, owned by the family of Puerto Rican actor Raul Julia (who plays Gomez Addams in Carolina's favorite movie, "Addams Family Values"), is the BEST pizza place. Hands down. However, it is also further out, so we recommend this to those with a rental car available.
