5 minute walk - The oldest continuously operating tavern in Philadelphia. Expect a mostly beer-centric menu, with over 30 varieties on tap. If you can believe it, once upon a time the Birds won the Super Bowl, and the Ranalli/Phelps gang spend a lucky Super Bowl Eve at McGillins.
5 minute walk - Just off Midtown Village’s bustling 13th Street, Graffiti Bar sits around the back from Sampan, a popular Asian restaurant. Drink choices consist largely of Asian-inspired revamps of the classics. This was the first stop on Arielle’s bar crawl when she showed Jonathan Philadelphia for the first time! He thought it was fine.
5 minute walk - This new restaurant and wine bar takes a page from tapas culture of Spain with small plates that combine popular Spanish flavors with traditional ingredients in a new way. Look for nods to Moorish culture and Spanish flavors featuring everything from olives and pig’s tail to fuindilla peppers. We've never been here, but Jonathan LOVES Spanish food. If you have a few hours to spare, ask him about Spain. And try to keep your eyes open.
Monk’s Cafe (15 minute walk): This Rittenhouse gastropub and Belgian bar has proven to be a local favorite. It is consistently rated as one of the best bars in the city. Denise used to hang out here in the 90s!
Short Uber ride - The location where John and Denise Ranalli shared their first date (formerly Lickity Split) and Jonathan was once chided by locals for reading his Kindle at the bar. MilkBoy serves cheesteaks from Jim’s across the street, so you don’t have to wait in line outside!
