How We Met

The right swipe just takes… 90 days to reply.

Once upon a July evening in 2022, Ally, a bright, organized, mildly competitive teacher, made a fateful swipe on Hinge. She came across Jonathan, a calm, collected, mildly stubborn police officer. She thought, “Those dimples are absolutely adorable… he might just be as kind as he looks.” So she swiped right. And then… nothing. Nada. Radio silence. Three months passed. Entire seasons changed. Pumpkin spice was back. Ally had moved on, not emotionally, but in a “he probably died or got kidnapped by his dog” kind of way. Then suddenly, in October, her phone lit up with the line, “Hey, if you went on a road trip, where would you go?!” It was Jonathan. Turns out Deputy Robbin had been busy serving justice, writing reports, and completely forgetting that Hinge existed. Ally, being the patient educator she is, gave him a chance. Their first date was at Willy McCoys in Chaska, where they quickly realized they were not like other Hinge horror stories. They talked for three hours, covering everything from travel dreams to chaotic students, hers, and wild police calls, his. By the end of the date, they had already made plans to see each other again because clearly, three hours was not enough for these two lovebirds. The plan was for Ally to meet Archie, Jonathan’s dog and arguably the true gatekeeper to Jonathan’s heart. Fast forward, Ally and Archie hit it off after some skeptical sniffs, and the relationship was officially blessed by the dog. From the start, things just clicked. They were a team, part romantic comedy, part buddy cop movie. She brought kindness, contagious laughter, and the ability to win at golf without even trying. He brought patience, loyalty, and a heart big enough for her and Archie. They both loved seeing the world. Ally preferred planes, because why drive twelve hours when you can fly in two, and Jonathan preferred cars, because why not take a random off roading detour through the middle of nowhere. While the journey looked different for each of them, the destination was always the same, each other. Then came golf. Jonathan thought he would teach Ally a few things. Ally proceeded to beat him the first time they played. Jonathan now owns five golf polos, three sets of clubs, and a tiny piece of humble pie. Ally is still undefeated, according to Ally. From swiping in July 2022 to building a life filled with dog cuddles, golf rematches, travel debates, spontaneous road trip adventures through the middle of nowhere, and a suspicious number of Amazon packages, it was clear this was something special. Because sometimes the right swipe just takes ninety days to reply.
