Thaksena and Jonathan had a lot of mutual friends, who had openly plotted on getting the two together. On this night, all of their friends played a role in making it happen. Thaksena joined a group of friends for dinner at 'Crabby Joes' in Hamilton. She noticed Jonathan at the table, but sat with the girls on the opposite side of the table. Suddenly, she got a phone call and left to answer it. When she came back, her chair disappeared and the only available seat was beside Jonathan. Their friends (AND waitress) said that her chair was creating a "fire hazard", and had to be removed. Confused, she listened to the waitress and sat next to Jonathan. The two quickly started chatting, and felt really comfortable around one another. Eventually, they found out they were also in the the same program, and started hanging out in between classes, and seeing each other with/without their friends. It wasn't until a few weeks later, that their friends confessed to fabricating the "fire hazard" story, just so the two would sit next to each other (and even got the waitress in on it). The rest is history, and a huge thanks to the persistence of their friends. P.S. Ironically, 'Crabby Joes' did end up burning down from an actual fire, a few years later.
One weekend, Jonathan drove Thaksena to a spot they had not explored before - Dundas Peak in Hamilton, ON. As they reached the top of the peak, Jonathan pulled out 2 brown bags and handed one to Thaksena. When she asked what was inside the bag, he responded with - "Lunch." After she opened the bag, she pulled out a fancy cucumber sandwich (complete with smoked salmon, spicy mayo, and cucumbers on egg bread). Ironically, the first meal Jonathan had ever made for Thaksena was also a cucumber sandwich, but with mayo on white bread. Like the sandwich, this was a metaphor of how their relationship had also grown over 7 years. As she dug further into the bag, she pulled out the box with the engagement ring, and he asked her to marry him.
