It was 2017, Jonas was living in Oslo, Norway, and Kate was living in Washington, DC and yet their story began in San Fransisco, CA. At the time, Jonas was studying for his master's degree at the University of Oslo and Kate was in the 1st year of her corporate job in Virginia. As fate would have it, both opportunities led them to attend the same business conference in San Fran. Jonas got a last-minute opportunity to volunteer through one of his courses, and Kate was sent to work the event. Throughout the event, they found themselves drawn to one another, Jonas finding ways to talk to Kate, pretending that something was broken, and Kate getting excited when he would. They chose to spend the weekend together exploring this new city neither of them had been to. Their first date was as romantic as it gets… exploring Alcatraz Island and its historic prison! They visited a traditional diner and ate American-style pancakes, walked along curvy Lombard street, met the seals at Pier 39, and enjoyed getting to know each other. After the trip, Jonas and Kate kept in touch every day. Not long after, Jonas invited Kate to visit him in Norway, and the rest, as they say, is history!
Jonas and Kate got engaged in Geilo, Norway on December 27, 2020. They had just spent their 3rd Christmas together in the snowy mountains of Geilo. That morning, Kate woke up thinking it was just another day, meanwhile the whole Krüger Svensson family knew what was in store, and was secretly plotting what was to come. That day, they decided to take a snowshoe hike. Jonas was acting strange, which Kate later obviously figured out was nerves, and drove around in circles trying to find the “perfect” spot. They finally set out for their trip in the snow, enjoying the gorgeous scenery up in Kikut. At one point Kate fell, naturally, and as Jonas helped her up, she turned around, and there he was on one knee with the most beautiful ring, and he asked her to marry him. With no hesitation, Kate said yes and immediately cried for the remainder of the evening. Jonas then explained that after the trip, they were meant to check into Dr. Holms hotel for the night and get ready for dinner reservations they had at Hallingstuene, the restaurant that they ate at on Kate’s first trip to Norway.
