Jon was a sophomore and Brittany was a junior in high school when they first met. We had lockers in the same hallway and one day Jon started talking to Brittany on her way to class. Brittany was reluctant to chat with Jon at first and wondered why Jon kept finding different ways to keep talking to her. She was in a culinary arts class where she would occasionally take some of the food that she made to her locker to eat later. Jon quickly realized that he might get a snack from Brittany after that class, which resulted in daily visits after culinary class to see what treats she might have to share. One particular day in November, Brittany had just made a cake in class earlier that day and needed someone to help her carry it to her car. Jon quickly volunteered and kept asking for a piece of cake. Brittany insisted that he couldn't have a piece, but settled on giving him a small pink fondant flower from the bottom of the cake. After a few weeks of hallway banter, coffee exchanges, and a wild western dancing class, we started to become best friends. Eight years later we are still best friends and ever since that day where Brittany sacrificed a fondant flower from her cake for Jon to enjoy, we knew that loving each other would be a piece of cake!
