Naomi started attending Mosaic Community Covenant Church in Missouri City in early 2024, where Jonah was already a member. They officially met when she visited the church's young(ish) adult small group. At first Naomi assumed Jonah was a dad and somebody’s husband. Jonah thought Naomi was pretty cute. By springtime, others began plotting to set them up. At an all day leadership training event, one of the pastors kept the seat next to Jonah open so Naomi had no choice but to sit there, and they got to know each other more there. Later, a group rodeo outing fell through, with only Naomi, Jonah, and his friends left planning to go. Naomi still went because she was starting to think Jonah was kinda cute too and thought “why not?” They had a blast and started texting more after that. Soon after, Jonah mustered up the courage to ask Naomi out over text. Their first date was lunch, dessert, and claw machines in Chinatown on May 4th. They were both pretty nervous but they soon hit it off!
For Valentine’s Day weekend, Jonah and Naomi had planned to cook a nice dinner, watch their favorite romantic movies, and take a walk in a park. Jonah’s plan was to propose at the park on Saturday. But with rain in the forecast, he had to pivot quickly to Friday instead, which caused a bit of last minute panic. For the location, Jonah chose a bench at a playground in front of his house, close to where they would often say goodbye after dates. He took off work that day and whipped up decorations with the help of his siblings. But he kept all this activity secret from Naomi, who thought that a proposal that weekend was likely but didn’t want to get her hopes up too much. As coordinated, family disrupted the movie night, and Jonah invited Naomi outside to the setup, complete with flowers and lit candles. He went down on one knee and asked her to marry him, and she said yes!
