Selah had decided to come home after 3 years at GCU to finish her last semester online, she was searching for community, fellowship, and Godly friends as she transitioned back to living at home. This search led her to reconnect with a Highschool friend, Leah Moala. Leah and her husband had exactly the group of friends Selah was looking for, and one of those friends happened to be Jonah. The certified nerd, drummer, and aspiring pyromaniac. Jonah and Selah’s world collided one night at the beach, and a new chapter started for both of them. The best chapter of their lives. JONAH: I had heard about this Selah girl from Kenny and Leah. They told me how amazing she was, they told me I NEEDED to go out with her. I didn’t think to much of it, I figured if she was cool and we got along we could see what happens. Fast forward a month or two and I was hanging out at the beach to celebrate Kenny’s birthday. As the day closed and we were getting ready to start up the bonfire, I look over and see Kenny talking to some people I had never met before. I walk over to get a look. Who are these people? I plucked up the courage to go and introduced myself. “These are our friends, Keahi, Kawai, and Selah.” Kenny and Leah say, introducing them to me. “Ohhh so this is the girl they were talking about huh?” I thought to myself. “Well I’m not gonna assume anything but I’ll try to get to know her.” As we walked down to the beach to start the bonfire, always my responsibility as the group pyromaniac, I had an idea. Maybe using my skills as a fire breather will impress this cute girl. Unfortunately, my skills involved watching YouTube videos and a few practice runs. The plan was to breathe fire onto the pile of wood and lighter fluid, it was gonna looks sick. But the wind didn’t want to cooperate with my plans, the wind kicked the fire back into my face, burning my lips and eyebrows. “Aw crap, she just saw that.” I thought my chances of impressing this girl were over, but I figured I’d try to talk to her all the same. We had some small talk that night and I thought maybe as we got to know each other something could start… Maybe she can overlook my fire-based foolishness… And that’s exactly what happened! Luckily, she didn’t know about the burned face (until we were dating) and as we became friends, I found myself falling in love with this girl from the beach. SELAH: After being gone for so long I wanted to reconnect with some friends and one of those friends being Leah. Leah invited me to her husband Kenny’s birthday beach party at Zublans on the West Side. I heard a lot of people might be there so I brought my brothers to buffer the anxiety of meeting new friends. As I arrived, the excitement of seeing Leah blinded me from really paying attention to everyone else. I said Hi to their friends (I did notice this one cute white guy) but I mainly wanted to catch up with Leah and Kenny. As the sun went down, we went over to the sand to set up the bonfire and play some worship music. Next thing I know one of the guys I met (totally forgot his name in the moment) blew fire into the wood and the fire lit! “What the heck is wrong with this guy?!” I thought to myself “He seems pretty wild. I don’t know if this guy is the most responsible.” I shooed the embers away from me and the night continued. I got to make small talk with the cute wild guy and he told me he was going to school for engineering at Liberty University and so on… “Maybe he’s not as bad as I thought” I told myself. 2 months later we met again at Young Adults Bible Study. I obviously remembered him as the smart, cute, fire breathing white guy from the beach (how could I forget). As we became friends, I found myself falling in love with the boy from the beach.
