Jonah and I thought we first met in our freshman year science class at Madison Southern High School. However, we found out later that we actually played on the same little league basketball team. God has a sense of humor like that. We were best friends from the beginning. I prayed and asked the Lord that my next boyfriend would be my future husband. I did not expect to find him at age 14, but I’m sure glad that was the Lord’s plan. After months of awkward teenage flirting we went on our first date, which was the live action Lion King movie. During the movie, Jonah asked me to be his girlfriend. Even though I made him wait months to ask me, I’m glad he was patient and pursued me as God intended.
From the beginning of our relationship, we knew we would be together for the rest of our lives. Apparently, so did everyone in high school because we received the superlative, “most likely to get married”. Getting married was something we discussed from the beginning. We knew we were pouring into a relationship that was gifted from God and through mountains and valleys, we were going to make it because of Him. Lake Owsley has always been a special place to us. Jonah planned the most perfect day. After church, he drove me to the Lake and asked me to marry him. I responded through tears, “Really?” Which was also my response 4 years early when he told me he liked me (harsh I know, but it obviously worked out). Emma Ballinger, My best friend since I was little, came out of the woods taking pictures and shared that special moment with us. As well as Jonah Wooten, who has definitely won my approval for being with Emma. We spent the rest of the day with family and calling friends. Then we went back to class the next day because we are high school sweethearts.
The day Jonah and I have been waiting for since we started dating. The one I have waited for my whole life. We are so excited thinking of spending this day together surrounded by our dearest friends and family. May 10th is also a day to honor a beloved family member who will be smiling down on us from heaven, my Great Uncle George. I know he would be overjoyed that we are getting married on his birthday, since I was his favorite great niece of course.
