How We Met

First comes friendship, then comes love.

KO- LOL well it’s not an epic meeting story, more of a journey I’d say. Jon and I met online. We met on Hinge - “designed to be deleted” is the slogan however the App probably should be renamed as Cringe, lol. There’s a variety of people on that app. You never really know what to expect with someone you meet online so I didn’t have high expectations when I first met Jon (Sorry Jon!). My mindset (at that time) was to go out, have some drinks, have some laughs, and hopefully make a new friend at the very least. I was pleasantly surprised with Jon. We had a great first meeting. Perhaps it’s because we were in the same phase of our lives, recently graduated from college, recently purchased our own homes and ready for dating. Our first day meeting was full of laughs, dominos pizza, and just great conversation. We discovered we had a lot in common, similar hobbies, tastes in movies/books/ video games and sense of humor. We continued to see each other off and on but not exclusively. However, every time we went on dates, we just kept getting closer to being a couple and doing couple things. Eventually it reached that point, where we had to decide if we were serious about each other. And of course we were nervous to take it to the next level. We both came out of hard relationships, and neither of us wanted to put ourselves out there. So we took some time apart for a few months. We both saw other people, got our hearts broken by someone else, then somehow found our way back to each other (again!). Finally it just clicked, like normal, like nothing changed. We decided if dating sucks and we’re happy being with each other, let’s just delete our apps! So we did, and we’ve been together ever since. It’s always been natural, comfortable, and just normal to be with him. He's my person. JR - We definitely met at a bible study while - oh, wait, this isn’t for our parents? Got it. Okay yeah, we met on an app. Kyra’s right, the digital dating pool is bleak. But she was the diamond in the rough, it just took me awhile to realize it. We went to get pizza for the first date and spent a lot of time talking. We had way more in common than I expected, and I also learned about her sense of humor, which has kept me laughing since. I remember thinking that Kyra was just so genuine. If she cared at all about something, she was 110% about it. I admired that. I still do. The silver lining about it taking a while for things to click was that it provided an opportunity for us to become good friends and lay a solid foundation for our current relationship. Things weren’t rushed and we took our time and I think we’ve been better for it.
