Bradley and JoLissa met each other on the dating app Bumble (which includes swiping to the right on people you like, hence the hashtag) at the end of September 2016. She was a stressed-out law student and he was an overworked Atlanta-based consultant who spent most of his time at hotels, airports, and client sites. After taking a chance, Jolissa making the first move (that's how Bumble works), and texting back and forth for about a week, they had their first date at a small bar on Main street in Downtown Houston called Moving Sidewalks. There they were, two millennials on a typical date. Her taken back by how short he was, and him by how tall she was, but both ignorant of the future that lie ahead. The sparks were flying that night, with every laugh and honest answer bringing them closer together. By all accounts, the date was a success, one for the record books! But, as some may know, the second date wasn't exactly smooth sailing.
On their second date, they decided to throw caution to the wind and made hasty plans to meet a local outdoor beer garden near downtown called Axelrad. Him in his work button-up, khaki pants, and ID badge still attached to his belt (reminding her of her dad) and her arriving in clothes designed to provide maximum comfort for someone who ends a whole day of studying with a two hour drive through Houston traffic. There they were, unmasked and slightly vulnerable, but neither of them minded. They were comfortable with each other as is, and the sparks flew as if the first date never ended. As the sun had long set and with it the fall heat, they both decided they would go their separate ways. Bradley, being a gentleman, offered to walk JoLissa to her car, but she refused the gesture. He insisted with clear and concise reasoning but JoLissa was unphased and refused. Feeling defeated as his uber appeared, Bradley gave his goodbyes, the two went their separate ways, and Bradley rode off in the loneliest uber of his life! (Bradley obviously has very strong feelings about this moment) He thought the relationship with the pretty girl who made him laugh was over before it began. Fearful of losing a new relationship that was bringing so much warmth to his soul, Bradley found new resolve and determination to stand his ground and give all he's got for one more grand gesture! A kiss he thought, just one good kiss to seal the deal as if for one moment in both of their lives fairy tales are real, heroes save maidens, and stories end happily. So needless to say he was surprised when JoLissa reached out to him and planned their third date, Trivia Night!
Meanwhile, 35 miles away in Katy, JoLissa was thrilled at how things were going. She loved spending time with the cute guy who laughed at her jokes. She had been single for a while and the progress she was making with this new guy scared her a little. But she couldn't stop thinking about him and how he seemed to be everything she had ever wanted. After thinking about it for far too long and soliciting far too many opinions from her friends, she reached out to Bradley and proposed a third date at a local bar downtown. A Jeopardy aficionado and all-around random fact queen, JoLissa was sure she would impress Bradley when she knocked the trivia game out of the park. Sadly, that was not to be. They lost the trivia game by a wide margin and JoLissa feared Bradley would actually think she was a little dumb. But both of them were still winners because the date was awesome and they both walked away knowing they had something special. That night, she let Bradley walk her to her car and as his uber arrived they shared their very first kiss. Over the next 3 years, they split their time between living in their respective homes and staying at the Westin in the galleria (before anyone says anything, that's the hotel Bradley stayed in when in Houston for work!), eating Chipotle from the food court, dessert from the Cheesecake Factory, and good drinks and food at their favorite dinner spot, North Italia. In the early months of 2018, Bradley, deciding he could no longer bare days, hours, and minutes between seeing the woman he loved, made the best decision of his life and moved his home base from Atlanta to Houston. Soon after JoLissa graduated law school, they bought a house, got engaged, and now are so excited to tie the knot in front of their friends and family and start married life together. We're so thankful for everyone who is taking time out of their lives to celebrate this milestone in ours! We love you all beyond words! - B&J.
