HOW WE MET

BRIDE

Mark 11:24 "Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours." I returned from work and classes that evening when I got a call from someone named "Ayo". We had a really short conversation, he wanted to order some food, and he was supposed to call me back. Months later, I received a text on WhatsApp, I tried to confirm who it was, he said his name is "Ayo" and apologized for not reaching out since the last time we spoke and still wanted to place an order. But I lived in Lawton while he lived in Oklahoma City. The distance was a barrier to placing his orders, and he was really interested in "The Jolasjollof". Months later, we talked on and off until I moved to Oklahoma City in June of 2018. We eventually met in person and became friends. He finally placed an order, but because he was on a diet at that point he ordered Oil-less "Eforiro" & "Jolasjollof". Very specific order, as he didn't want this or that in his food, "sighs," but customers are always right! We became friends. He ordered many more meals after his first order, and that explains the reviews he gave, and still gives till date. In September of 2018, I organized an event called "The Foodtopia by Jola'sKitchen." Ayo was there to support. I appreciated him and the others who came to support me. The Monday after my event was a public holiday, so I decided to treat myself (I was too tired to cook a meal for myself). I went to a restaurant in Oklahoma City. Ayo called and asked what I was doing. I told him where I was and said he could come by if he wanted. He showed up some minutes later and we talked at length over dinner. I believe this evening put some building blocks on the foundation of our friendship. Gradually we got closer, had a couple of dates here and there. He started showing more care and paying more attention to me, but as a "lady" I acted clueless but kept praying as always.

HOW WE MET CONT'D....

BRIDE

After a while, he voiced out his feelings. I smiled and asked "what exactly do you want?" He said, "I want to marry you, there's nothing I want in a woman that you don't have." "You are the woman I prayed for" among many other beautiful words. I told him I had to pray about it. Initially, I wasn't interested, because I only saw him as a friend. So I prayed and waited on God. Meanwhile, Ayo didn't give up. I talked to my Pastor, sought his advice a lot, and kept praying with my big sister and friend, and then I got a greenlight, which was an unexplainable peace of God. A week after my birthday, he treated me to a birthday dinner, and we talked at length again. I was now ready to begin this adventure with him, and the rest they say is history.

HOW WE MET

GROOM

I first heard about Omowumi through her uncle Olatunde Sodiya on August 2nd, 2017 at a soccer game. (I had seen her picture on her uncle's phone) After the game, I asked her uncle if he knew anybody that cooks. Due to my busy schedule, I needed an African Uber Eats!!! He said his niece actually cooks, but wouldn't give me her contact because he didn't trust light-skinned guys. LOL! It took almost a month before he released her contact to me. I spoke to her briefly and said I would call her back. Unfortunately, I didn't call back to place any orders because I had to travel out of state for a job training. Fast forward to May 2018 after I got back from training, I started talking to her again and finally ordered some food when she moved to Oklahoma City. Although this was just a coded way of getting to see and talk to her more, (she had no idea initially, as she was just doing her thing). That same year I went to three weddings and I caught 2 out of 3 garters 😂😂😂. After a lot of prayers, begging, wooing and exercising patience, we started dating in Nov. 2018 and we have never looked back since then.

THE PROPOSAL

BRIDE

It was his birthday weekend. I had asked him severally what he would like to do for his birthday but I didn't get an answer until about 3 weeks before his birthday when he said: "Babe, you've never fixed your nails since I met you, let's go for a manicure and pedicure for my birthday." Luckily for him, I had been thinking about getting my nails done (I usually don't because I cook a lot). So, I easily agreed. He also said "I was thinking we should go to Vast for my birthday dinner." I was excited because we finally had a plan! I had to be in Lawton on his actual birthday for an occasion, so we went to dinner a day before. We ate and had so much fun talking and laughing. We ordered dessert, I saw the waiter coming and was so excited, until he placed the plate in front of me, then I saw the question!!! I shouted and tried to run the other way, but I was sitting by the corner, and before I knew it he was on one knee! I NEVER saw that coming, he pretended so well! From the first day we started dating, I knew this was it! Even when we misunderstood each other, the Love was TRUE, with so many beautiful memories running through my head, and how he made "his day" about me, I didn't hesitate to say YES! to the beginning of forever with "Ayomi" (My joy)

THE PROPOSAL

GROOM

May 3rd, 2019 was the d-day! It was my birthday and I planned to make it about her. However, I asked her to be my wife over my birthday celebration dinner which we had a day prior to my birthday since she had to cater to an event on my actual birthday. Before then, Ayokunmi (maid of honor and best friend) and I had been conversing and planning the perfect proposal venue. She suggested Vast, and it turned out to be truly a magical place. Thanks Battle Buddy!!! More so, our families knew what was coming, but she only thought we were going to celebrate my birthday. I already planned with the waiter how I wanted the proposal to be done, but if you know Jola very well, you know she's quite inquisitive and surprising her could be very difficult. I used going to the bathroom as an excuse to hand over my phone to the waiter for pictures and videos during the proposal. Upon returning from "the bathroom," she kept asking for my phone, (she wanted to take pictures, lol). I had to lie to her that the phone was charging at the reception, (it took a lot to make her believe that🤦‍♀️). I convinced her to order a specific dessert, thankfully she was interested in it. I had asked the waiter to scribble on the plate with chocolate the words "Will you be my Mrs. Sunmola?" Her answer is the reason you are reading this today. Since the proposal, I have been counting the days and looking forward to taking this journey with you. My Angel, "Omowumi temi nikan." My Melanin Queen.❤ "Truly he who finds a wife finds a good thing." Not only did I find a good thing, but I also found peace, love, joy, happiness, laughter, to mention a few. Believe me, she's the full package!!!❤❤
