We met in 2019 at an Aquela Dorvil concert—without knowing that day would mark the beginning of something so meaningful. Negot was one of the musicians playing, and Jokeberde was one of the invited artists. Even though we didn’t speak that night, we noticed each other. Negot was shy and spent most of the evening hiding behind a speaker, quietly watching. Jokeberde kept glancing over, wondering, "Why is that man hiding?" There was something familiar about him—something that caught her attention. He reminded her of her brother with that full beard. But that night, nothing happened. We didn’t talk. We didn’t even exchange names. Just a moment—and then we moved on. Later, we crossed paths again—this time online. Negot sent a friend request on Facebook, and after some time, Jokeberde accepted. What started as a casual conversation about music quickly became something deeper. We began talking more, laughing more, opening up. We became friends without expecting anything more.
At first, Jokeberde had no interest in dating a musician. There were too many stories, too many assumptions about the lifestyle. But the more we got to know each other, the more we realized—this was different. There was something real here. On September 1, 2020, we officially began our relationship. It hasn’t always been easy. Life threw challenges our way—distance, uncertainty, moments of doubt. There were times it felt like things would fall apart. But through it all, we learned to put "God first", and to trust that if He brought us together, He would sustain us. We’ve grown stronger, not just as a couple, but in our faith and commitment.
Before leaving Haiti, Negot gave Jokeberde a ring—not just as a symbol of love, but as a promise that he wouldn’t forget her, no matter what. That simple gesture carried us through the waiting, the praying, the holding on. And now, we’re here—ready to say “yes” to forever. Ready to continue this journey as husband and wife. We’ve waited, we’ve prayed, and we’ve trusted God’s timing. This year, we’re getting married—and we can’t wait to celebrate this next chapter with you. Our story is a reminder that real love still exists. It may not come easily or follow the path you expect, but when it’s rooted in faith, friendship, and grace—it’s more beautiful than we could have imagined. With love and joy, Negot & Jokeberde
