They are both great areas and most wedding guests on the island stay in both regions. We recommend booking in one of the following areas: Oneroa: Central location near Oneroa Village, which includes a strip of restaurants, bars, and shops, and is an easy starting point to move around the island with close access to the bus service. Onetangi: Beautiful sea views, access to the white sand Onetangi Beach, and close to various wineries. Onetangi is 15-20 mins from Oneroa center and the wedding venue, but has close access to various wineries and the beautiful Onetangi beach. Areas outside these are lovely as well, offering more scenic and lush landscapes - such as Church Bay or Palm Beach. The key thing is noting the need for Taxis or a rental car in those areas, as the bus service is not as accessible.
Waiheke has a variety of accommodation options, ranging from affordable stays to luxury retreats. Airbnb & Vacation Rentals: Offer the largest selection of homes and have size and pricing options for all. Airbnb is the easiest to search from, but you can do a quick Google search and find smaller booking companies on the island (Booking.com, BookaBach). If you are looking at a vacation rental but want a little extra support, local companies like StayWaiheke rent homes and offer services like rental cars, housekeeping, grocery shopping, etc.. Boutique Hotels & Lodges: A mix of charming, smaller-scale accommodations that tend to lean on the pricier side of the island accommodations. Notable boutique hotels include Delamore Lodge, Omana Villas, The Boatshed Hotel, and Cable Bay Views. Booking early is highly recommended due to peak summer demand. If you're booking a vacation rental, we suggest contacting the host to ask about early check-in options, as US flights typically arrive in the morning. Some hosts may offer early check-in for free if they have no guests the night before, while others might charge a partial-day rate. As an Airbnb host myself, I always try to accommodate early check-ins when possible at our property in Lake Tahoe—so don’t hesitate to ask your host!
