In 2016 they met during a Children's Theatre class where they bonded over music and their love for the bands Thrice, The Dear Hunter and Circa Survive. After the semester ended, Gabrielle hosted a cast party for the class after their performances were done. She thought that since class was over, she would never see any of those people again (as are most college classes). In January 2017 she was cast in a play called "Almost Maine" and to her surprise, John attended the final performance. They hung out for the rest of the night with a few other friends and went on their way. From there they talked for weeks showing each other different music and wanted to hang out again. One day Gabrielles' favorite musician, Anthony Green was performing in Venice Beach and she sent him the flyer. John asked if she wanted to go. Of course she did. She thought that it was going to be a group hang out but when she got in the car, it was just him. After the show they sat in the car for a few hours listening to music and while Gabrielle was looking for a cool bar to go to, John leaned in for a kiss. She couldn't stop giggling and when they finally found a place to go, John turned the key and the radio had been on for so long that the battery died. They called anyone they thought they could bug at 12am and were able to get AAA out for a jump. He drove her home and they stayed in the car showing each other music until 7am.

February 25, 2022 was their 5th year anniversary. They usually go on a weekend trip for birthdays and anniversaries and decided to visit Big Sur. On February 26th they woke up early to visit Pfeiffer Beach which known for their purple sand. After spending some time admiring and climbing on the rocks, the decided to move to another spot as more people were starting to arrive. They stood in silence for a moment, watching the waves crash on the rocks and before they turned to leave, John (not so smoothly) said, "oh hey uh what was that? uh go over there..." After she caught herself from tripping, she turned and saw him on one knee. She said YES!
